Info: 2006 Dodge Charger R/T 48,800 miles

Whenever I go to turn left or right at slow speed it makes a loud "Whining" noise. Sounds like chewbaca off of star wars.

/also the power steering cuts in and out at slow speeds.

Checked the fluids, they looked a little dirty but they were at the right leve., I'm thinking it's the power steering pump.

Any body have any insight on this? If it's the pump how much do those usually cost to get fixed.

Thanks in advance

It could be several things...tie rod, control arm, steering rack, sway bar bushings, tension struts maybe a combo of things.

Have you changed tire sizes?

You might try jacking both front tires off the ground, and, with the help of a friend, carefully start it up and carefully turn the steering wheel and see if you can duplicate the sound. This might tell you if its the pump or perhaps part of the linkages. Not real sure what you might find, but might be a place to start.

Well I hope it's nothing major, I've been driving it since it happened. It just makes the annoying "whining" noise when I turn. It happened when I was doing a little "hot rodding" and was ripping around a turn and something popped.

I have 80 thousand km on my charger and the inner tie rods are worn out and wheel bearings need replacing. I guess nothing lasts long with these new cars...it seems the parts wear out faster then they use too.
