My '99 durango does not have that storage/compass console that alot of durangos have.  I can get one pretty cheap, how hard would that be to put in?  does it wire into the dome light that would have to be removed?  anybody ever done this?

it could be very hard or very easy to do this upgrade.  it might be possible that dodge ran the wires up to the overhead controls.  if not it would be an upgrade that is almost more trouble than its worth.  Ive never been inside this component but its linked to your fuel system, your odometer, an outside air temp gauge, and a compass.  The compass is probably internal but i would guess that the rest of it links up to the PCM somewhere around the fuse box or OBD2 sensor.  i would look for a first gen d in the junk yard somewhere and see what you need to gut.  This might not be a snap in upgrade.
