I honestly for the life of me cant understand why they'd even offer a fullsize truck like the Ram with a V6. It doesnt get better mileage, and since you are using it for a truck, why wouldnt you want the added power and torque?

It makes sense to offer an economy model truck, that I do understand....but offering a V6 that gets 16mpg and a V8 that gets 15mpg....doesnt make any sense to me.

The only way to buy a truck is a V8 or a Diesel....and in my opinion.....diesel only....

i too was sucked into the thinking that the V6 would have better MPG then the larger V8 or Hemi.  Come to find out from various Dodge owners on this site that the V8 not only gets the same or better MPG but also provides more power and towing capacity.  I love my V6 but i think next time i am going to step up to the V8.  Don't get me wrong, i drive the truck to work on paved roads about 99% of the time but for that 1% fun time which i am off road or pulling the boat, the V8 seems to be a better choice then the V6.

eh...i would. the truck cost 15k new.

if i want speed, i have cars. only reason i'd get a bigass truck is to tow shit...but i don't, and frankly, i hate the hemi. i was in a wheelchair when i got the truck, and that's why i got the truck i did.

IMO the 3.7 isn't a bad truck so much as it is too underpowered....I like the fact that I  could buy a truck for 15,000 thats full size but I hate the lack of power it does come with stock. I think if I was to choose something, I'd probably go with the CTD 2500 series, primarily because they seem to get really good mileage as well as power. Plus, with biodiesel and these new other types of fuels coming out, the diesel engine seems to make the most sense...

I know it wasn't really directed towards me. But I would buy this truck again, because I don't need the hemi power, I would be dead. And the 4.7 I got was only 15k with 20k mile on it. 2 years old. I couldn't find another truck like it for the money any where.

not to "under complicate it" 2500+ cummins only, 1500 hemi only, dakota 4.7 only.... if they just did that, get rid of the 3.7, more hemis would be sold and they could sink more money into R&D on getting better mpg out of it. the hemi cant handle a 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

I willl say this 1500 Dodge is a nice truck the 3.7 is a good motor just not for a full size truck I have a Q-Cab it needs more motor to push it around the 3.7 should never been offfered in this truck it just to much for it.

I was like a lot of others when purchasing this truck looking at the MPG Sticker the 23 MPG made me buy this truck to bad I only gotten that kind of MPG once I knew better than get the 3.7 but it was a good idea at the time.

Like I said before my last truck before this one gotten between 8 to 10 MPG down hill with the wind behide you, thats why I traded in for this truck between payments and gas bill it was a good idea at the time the 17 to 18 MPG is nicer but if I could do it again it would not be the 3.7.

Well, if I lived in Texas, then I may have gotten a better deal. But out in Socal, everyone is switching to godd*** Toyota Prius's and other lame hybrids. I wish I would have done a little more research before I picked up the v6 model....but thats the sacrifice I get.

^^ yea, should have researched more too. I jsut knew my truck was cheap, and i grabbed it right then and there. dealer was giving 4500 cash back and 1.9 apr, so i went for it. like i said, i was in a wheelchair and needed a truck, badly. my maxima just wasn't cutting it. Now i am able to drive the maxima (cause, i'm walking...rather well), and when i need the power, that's what the maximas for. My truck is seriously a truck. We have like 3 of our own buildings, and our boss has like 25 - looking at my truck on the outside, doesn't exactly represent how tore up my bed is...ugh. i need to line that bitch with something.

This is EXACTLY why I bought my new Ram also..............and also why I wouldn't buy another V6 Ram.

I had a 2002 Ram 1500 QC 4X4 SLT with the 5.9L (360 cu in) engine. I got about 11.5 MPG City and 15 - 15.5 MPG Highway with a tailwind and those MPG figures are WITHOUT towing,no jack rabbit starts, and NEVER going over 70 mph on the highway.

So getting 16 MPG City and 23 MPG Highway seemed sooo much better.

I made a hasty decision based on MPG numbers and low monthly payments (for a truck), it's a great truck and I'll live with it, but I wouldn't buy another V6 full size Ram ever again.

When I purchased Mine Truck they had Employee Pricing going on I gotten $9000.00 off mine this also made me buy A Dodge Truck I was looking on getting anouther Ford at the Time But the Dodge had the Killer deal at the time.

Like I said before when it's time to get rid of this truck we will see who has the Killer deal agian but one thing I do know it be a Dodge or a Ford only Yea Ford I still like Fords NO GM truck's.

But with any luck they will start offering a diesel motor in the 1/2 ton trucks when I trade this truck in, I realy don't need a 3/4 or 1 Ton truck for every day driving around I all ready have a 3/4 ton V-10 2001 Dodge excab truck for that but it suck fuel like don't need anouther one of those plus 1/2 ton's have a better ride to them for everday driving around still have a little Ruff ride to them but not like a heavy duty truck.
