getting ready to do my first oil change on my 5.7, anyone know if the oil drain bolt is towards the front or the back of the engine? I know it's a dumb question but I'd like to know where so that when I go to jack it up, I am all ready. As I am getting older, a ripe age of 47, it's not as much fun as it used to be to crawl under cars so sliding under the car to find it is not something I want to do. I know on my 5.9 it's on the front, my Mopar 400 it's on the back side of the pan. Getting ready to do a synthetic oil change.

the sump part of the pan isat the back of the motor and the drain plug is located at the front of the sump. it faces forward, not down. you will have to remove the plastic belly cover to gain access to the oil filter.

on a side note, the 2008 models use a metric oil filter.

Thanks for the info.I guess i need to get a haynes manual or somelthing to give me bolt/nut sizes too. Not sure if this is a metric oil drain plug size now.I did slightly look under the car and saw the plastic cover. This car might be too much of apain in the arse to do. i canchange oilin my ram in 10 minutes.As far as the oil filter, it called for the same size oil filter as my 5.9 Fram PH 16.I use a 5/8 socket to get the bolt out of my Rams pan, someone said it might be metric but the socket works and have done my oil changes since i bought it new back in 97.

the drain plug is metric. i can't remember if you use a 13mm or 15mm wrench. i know that the plastic belly pan has four 10mm bolts.

Man, you're awesome! Thanks. This is going to be a pain in the ass job I can tell. Now I have to go buy a special oil filter wrench. Ironically, I had a socket oil filter wrench and tossed it out a while ago. Now I will have to get another one. They sure don't make it easy on us.Took less effort to put in my K&N cold intake in this puppy.

I was just gonna say that on my 3.5L engine, I also discovered that the oil filter is flush with the bottom of the engine and requires the special plastic oil filter wrench.

On a side note, now I have to deal with the engine blowing blue smoke.
