My wife posted a great tip on email, and it is so great, I want to share it with you.
Keep your RKE fob on you at all times.  If you fall or feel you are have a cardiac, hit the panic button, and your car's alarm will bring help.  At night, have your keys on the night stand by your side.  If there is a fire, or someone gets sick or injured in the night, you have instant acces to them and don't have to go looking.  If you hear suspicious sounds, just press the panic button and your alarm will scare off any prowlers or possible burglers.  I feel like a complete dweeb because I hadn't thought about this on my own.

Damn it why'd I buy an ST without power locks or windows, now if someone comes to rob my house I'll just have to use my phone or something. LoL not a bad idea though. :)

Shibby, don't despair. Checker Auto, or Kragen in some parts of the country, has an aftermarket alarm system I would buy if our Dak didn't have the system it has already. For $59.95, you get a talking Alarm system that has seven messages and a siren that cycles through six siren sounds.  It features one wire hook-up and is so easy to install, even I could do it.  You might check it out.  Good luck.

that would not be a good alarm if you are looking to protect your vehicle though...

A good alarm will have shock sensors, glass sensors and proximity sensors...  and a battery backup for when they cut your 1 wire install...

but for the stuff in the O.P. it would work great.

the factory alarm is an add on module...  it uses a voltage sence to set the alarm off...

they are alright,  but not as nice as a good viper or valet unit...   much better than any GM factory.

A voltage sensor that just senses the door handles and what not. No mercury switch or other sensors?

The one-wire hook-up senses the electrical system for a current draw.  I am fairly sure there are mercury switches to detect movement of the vehicle.  Myy alarms are really the only ones I have e ver seen with a motorcycle battery back-up, but by the time the cut the cattery lead they have bumpedintothe surrounding structures and set off the alarm that way.  Then they will hurt themselves trying to get out from under the truck. :D

I used to install DEI alarms...   a battery back up is only 4 inches by 4 inches by 6 inches...

The 1 wire hook ups at autozone (bulldog) use a voltage sense.  they dont have a mercury tilt switch, unless its inside the unit.   That would suck because you would have to mount it right side up and perfectly level so that wind wouldn't set it off.

Proximity sensors are the best protection for the money,  they don't rely on sound (glass sensor) voltage or impact.  if something is in there detection field, and it moves...  alarm goes off.

A good alarm will have a starter kill...  I don't think you can do that with 1 wire.

The mopar unit has starter kill (I believe)  so its better than just a siren making noise like GM's.

I have a feeling the panic idea, while good, wouldn't work well around here.  Someone's car alarm goes off almost every night near me, everyone's learned to just ignore the things since the person is too lazy to shut it off when it goes off (or get it adjusted properly).
