Cams? - 4/9/2008 7:11:05 AM    snipingdude Posts: 158 Joined: 10/9/2007 Status: offline So I was thinking about getting new cams in the truck. Those compucam ones from KRC performance...for the 4.7L, If I remember it said it was like a gain of 36hp and 66 ft/lb of torque...anyone know how noticable the gains are, or if they're worth it? Status: offline they are well worth the money, but i noticed on the krc site that the cams went up another 100.00. go for the new 212 x cams. they did not have these out when i had mine installed. also i had a garage do mine. about 5.5 hours for the job. it is well worth spending the 400.00 to get it done.and then top it off with an aftermarket throttle body fro the fastman and you are good to go. _____________________________ thats right, i did it so what, cry two tears in a bucket, @#$% it, lets take it to the stage 13.7 / 101.3 in the 1/4 mile (in reply to snipingdude) Post #: 2

What sort of power would i be lookin at with those and a tb (already have FIPK, Flowmaster force 2, quad cab 4x4)? Would it be worth the money spent? Status: offline without the flash you wont get the full effect of the cams in the higher rpm ranges. forget the conveter a waste of money, the manifolds flow just as good as the headers but you will need to get a larger diameter y-pipe or go true duals with an x-pipe. frenchy has this set up. might be worth upgrading the injectors though. stock is 19lbs may need to go up a notch. as for milage. it may stay the same but not go up. depending on your driving habits. if you are going to be a weekend warrior at the track good idea. like me, i take the average joe shmo hemi and put a hurtin on them light to light, but they get me in the long run. as for power you will gain quite a bit 45-50 horses. compared to the r/t cams which dont do much 15-20 at the wheels. my truck bone stock was at 174 and the r/t was at 190. now i am at 250. and i just purchased a zex wet nitrous kit for the truck. should have it all hooked up and dynoed by this sat.  Thumbnail Image Attachment (1) _____________________________ thats right, i did it so what, cry two tears in a bucket, @#$% it, lets take it to the stage 13.7 / 101.3 in the 1/4 mile (in reply to Cuban11182) Post #: 6

I talked with AirRam and he said with my setup that I should NOT get the 206 cams and get the HO cams...what say you? (in reply to superdak05) Post #: 7

Status: offline if you are gonna keep the truck stock and not switch out the gears and do other mods to improve performance then the h/o cams will do fine. but if plan on going big then spend the money and get the larger cams. i still run the factory exhaust manifolds but up graded to a larger y-pipe cheaper than the headers and flow just the same if not better now.  _____________________________ thats right, i did it so what, cry two tears in a bucket, @#$% it, lets take it to the stage 13.7 / 101.3 in the 1/4 mile (in reply to Cuban11182) Post #: 9

Status: offline i spent quite a bit of money on my whole truck. cams were 749.00 plus 400.00 for the install throttle body was another 180.00, 4.10 gears were the biggest at 1600.00 for everything both frt and rear. gears, axle seals, bearing kits, oil and labor, catback was 250.00 installed for the single 3 inch with a larger y-pipe. 5.00 for the 180. stat. 212.00 for the 63 series k/n intake. another 230.00 for the jet stage 2 chip, which is going up for sale because of the zex nitrous. another 1000.00 for the complete zex kit. including purge valve, bottle heater and install. the list goes on. about 15.00 for the iat relocator, so for what i spent, i could have ordered the supercharger kit that krc has now for the 05 and up dak. but it would not be the same. its only money. _____________________________ thats right, i did it so what, cry two tears in a bucket, @#$% it, lets take it to the stage 13.7 / 101.3 in the 1/4 mile (in reply to BAdassR/T) Post #: 12
