Default installing magnum rockers

LA318/Magnum heads:

The repair guide I'm using has me confused. It says to rotate the crank to 147° ATDC and torque the rocker bolts to 21ft/lbs. Why the odd crank angle? Cant I torque them down at TDC?

147atdc for each cyl or # 1? Must be referring toa previously run lifter that's full of oil.If for each cyl why not just say bdc? I'd just roll each piston down in the bore a ways with the cyl on the power stroke and torque 'em. Long as the valves don't hit. You got all new lifters don't you?

Yeah new lifters.

Here's all the guide says about installing rockers, copied straight from the FSM:

a. Rotate the engine until the "V8" mark lines up with the TDC mark on the timing chain cover. This mark is located at 147° from the No. 1 firing position.
b. Install the rocker arm and pivot on the correct cylinder.
c. Tighten each rocker arm retaining bolt to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).

I haven't decided yet. I'm gonna get the new cam broken in first, then I'll tackle the emissions systems.

What cam? The FSM isn't very clear is it? I've never had any trouble setting hyd. or solid cams by putting eachrocker on the base circle of the cam. I'd just go that route.

Yeah the FSM didnt help much.

Cam/lifters are Summit combo K6900 .448/.471 lift on 1.6 rockers.

I started bolting things up but had some pushrods rubbing casting flash. Gonna have to do some filing.

instructions that come with parts are often messed up...I put new valve cover gaskets the other day and it told me to glue them down with a small amount of "fast drying glue".likewhat the heck kind of glue do you want? plenty dry fastI used a Permatex liquidgasket goop instead

point is, boo to manuals, factory or thrid party or watever.

and anyhow i dont really have an aswers for this but heres and article that might give you some info. http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/t...num_heads.html(i tihnk its been posted before somewhere)

I'm still such a noob when it comes to engines that bad instructions can really throw me. Hurray for online forums.
