Default What is this on the overhead console?

We just bought a used 2005 Durango (see sig.) and I don't know what the little cirlce with a black ring and metal looking dot is on the driver's side. The passenger side has this same shape but it is a part of the plasitc molding. I hope I'm describing this well enough as I have no idea what this is. My wife couldn't find anything in the manual on it.

Thanks!

Could it be the manual release to the automatic liftgate opener ? "In the event of a power malfunction to the liftgate, an
emergency liftgate latch release can be used to open the liftgate. The emergency liftgate latch release can be
accessed through a snap-in cover located on the liftgate trim panel".

It's an infrared sensor that measures the driver's temperature. It's part of your automatic climate control.

Ok, the climate control sensor makes sense! Why isn't it on the passenger's side? That side only has the shape of the sensor as part of the plastic mold.

Thanks

My guess would be that the dimple is there so that a sensor could be added if the D had dual zone climate control for both driver & passenger. I think that '07 had that option but I'm not sure about '04-'06.

AK, thanks for the input. I have often wondered what that was, I had a couple of theories but I think I will keep those to myself now.
