I have a 2008 avenger and continue to have a grinding nose coming from what sounds like the left front wheel when making quick left turns, mainly when applying the brakes. The nose only happens when the car is slowing down such as coming in to make a u-turn or making any kind of sudden left turn. I have taken the car into the dealership and they told me that they were unable to reproduce the problem. Has anyone had any trouble like this? Or does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I plan on taking the car back to the dealership because I want the problem fixed, but I figured I would look else where for suggestions. Thanks!

My 2008 Limited Sebring Convertible had this issue. I looked and looked...put it up on the lift and could not find any reason for the noise. Exactly as you described. Finally checked the power steering fluid and level was low, topped fluid off and all is fine.

Hope this is your problem because it's an easy fix.

Could be the stability control. The tires on the car suck so it kicks in pretty early. Does the traction light go on when this happens?

I had the same issue in my 2008 dodge avenger. I took it in and they did find the problem and fixed it !!! This is what the work order says "Found drain for cowl rubbing on transfer unit, repositioned and now its ok" To me it sounded like it was coming from the suspension but this fixed the issue. Hope this helps

I'v got the same problem with my AWD.  Dealer found that it's the sway bar links.  They've ordered them.  Am waiting.  Hope it works.  I only have 5500 miles on my car.  Seems a little too soon for this to happen.

This problem is going to be a unique one where no one else has/had the same problem.. The problem is that when the car was built.. Whoever was putting the car together was screwing off and missed fastening something..  I had a rear emergency brake cable that was off and it made me nuts because it was sending a clicking noise up into the center console which is no where near the rear wheel. until I took the tires off and saw the issue which was very hidden.. (I'm not saying that this is your problem but just giving you an example of some of the things they miss)

In your case I would recommend turning the steering wheel all the way and inspecting the entire area.. crawl under the car and look for anything that could be making contact with a metal object, then turn the wheel the other way and check it.. have someone get in the car and apply the brakes then turn the wheel. also slowly have them back the car up while doing this (Without you under the car :) Also try to have an adult help you as children tend to run you over by accident :)

It's probably something dumb as all hell like a missing caliper bolt, or something rubbing on your rotor.. Check all areas for wear and metal particles/shavings/heavy dust.. and where you think you hear the noise is where the problem is.. so look there..

I also had my brake pads disintegrate after 4000 miles so it may be possible that a part of your pad came off and the rest is in tact so that only under extreme braking situations or cornering the metal on the pad may rub on the rotor.. (Unlikely but I figured I would put it out there as an option)

I know this is very vague and you're probably going to say duh.. But the dealers just want you in and out and they don't try very hard to find issues (Not all of them but a lot) My car was clearly clicking like crazy but they couldn't find the issue and I have to fix it myself. After all no one is going to care more about fixing the problem in your car than you and you are going to do a more thorough job at looking than anyone else will.

Based on all the different solutions I have to agree with you. I hope that everyone gets their issue fixed and is safe. I swore mine was suspension related because of how hard the noise was! I was lucky for it just to be a cowl drain! I guess the guy putting mine together had some coffee in him!!! Take care

I also wanted to add that just because you find the issue doesnt mean you have to fix it yourself.. You can just bring it in to the dealer, point to the problem and say "fix that ya dumb ass!" :)

Thanks to everyone who responded to this post. I took RobertR's advice, added some steering fluid, and have not heard the noise since. It has been over a month since I topped off the fluid, so I feel safe to say that this was the problem.
