That 440 in Orlando is where I live. I got an 1987 D150. I'm looking for a powerful motor like that. What would I need to do after I buy it? I assume I'd need all new transmission as well?

all of the torqueflites use similar parts...like sometiems its the same case, slightly different internals, or same internals, slightly differnet parts. read thru this maybe.... http://www.allpar.com/mopar/torqueflite.html
anyhow i know that the 727 fits the big blocks. so you main thing is to indentity yours (check the ID plate, prolly 500 series) and see if shes the same mount as 727. call a trans. shop i guess

there is a difference between the small block and big block 727. The bolt pattern on the bellhousing is different, otherwise its pretty much the same trans.

BAH HUMBUG!! Do it with as 318!!!  There is a great bolt-on only build of a 318 if you search google for "parts book 318". That's what I am doing. They got 400 Hp and some pretty good torque, plus you get to tell people that it is just a 318.

yea ive really got nothing against small blocks either. you can build one up for fairly cheap, or you can buy one already done with more than enough balls. these days you really dont need thousands of CIs and 50 carburettors to make HP

There is no replacement for displacement. On the other hand, that displacement burns alot of gas. I am going to build the 318 in my truck. When I rebuild it years in the future I may stroke it, but for now it stays 318. All you need is a good cam, intake, carb, and a little clean up on the heads, and you`re good for about 400 hp.
