Yea you could do it without any problems, but to me it is just not worth it to put synthetic in it unless your constantly raping on it.

i am going to run synthetic in my new engine, and i do plan on raping it, but we have been learning about oils at school and synthetic takes much more of a beating than conventional, so you can get your longer oil change interval too!

Yes, it would probably be a good idea to add Marvel Mystery Oil to the first oil change or use Seafoam to clean out the insides with it.  Make the first change between 1,500-2,500 miles so that it gets all the crap out.  After that you should be ok to run for 3,000-7,000 miles per oil change.

curious as to why you say that because everything i've read has mobil 1 as one of the better synthetics with amsoil being one of the best but not ahead by an extreme amount. any sources?

I run synthetic because I drive 60 miles per day round trip to work.  The synthetic does not sludge or molecularly break down with at least twice the milage so it's less oil changes.

This is all very interesting to me as I have had my 93 5.2 for a little over a year now and I was running 10W-30 as recommended and the truck just didnt get enough oil pressure (Running rough and dummy oil light coming on).  So I switched to 10w-40 and that helped.  As an added peace of mind I have been using the STP additive with my oil change.

So to make sure I understand this, Synthetic is technically lighter than conventional oil.  Thus throwing me back into the problem with oil pressure.  But I sure would like to be getting the bestter gas mileage if that truly is the case with sythentic.

It keeps the engine cleaner and no sludge crap buildup so the engine can run better.  It would help some with gas mileage, but not real big improvement.

You can, I use a regular one, but I change after 3,000 miles.  Soon I'll just be going 4k-5k and will be updating to a filter that is made for the longer mileage.  I'm afraid to take any chances otherwise.
