Hello,

Of the newer dodge, jeep, etc. engines, how can you tell the difference between the 1.8, 2.0 or the 2.4 ones by looking at them? Also do they only offer the CVT and 4 speed auto for these engines, or is there a 5 speed auto? Thanks

Russ

Seeing that you're asking about the Euro Avenger maybe you can go to a Dodge site for certain countries and ask. I know I found one for Austrailia. Here's a link for Australia and it shows that some have different wheels. http://www.dodge.com.au/avenger/index.html

Hi Russ,

Since last Wednesday we own a brand new Avenger 2.0 SXT it has a so called world engine aiming on economy rather than performance. Thus it doesn't really push like a six banger but I think 156 horses will do even though. The torque won't let you jump for joy however, if you keep it on rpm it is okay. On the other hand I rode trough the States in a Charger last year, nice and powerful but for what?
I mean the fastes was like 70mph the average some 55. See I live in Germany that means almost 9$ per gallon at the pump (you read it right) but highways (here it's called Autobahn) with no speed limit at all. My Venge does a max. of 125 mph and this is more than I like to ride permanently as it's too stressful and to consumptive anyway. BUT my average is more  85mph over here and my engine good  enough to do so.

A nice alternative is the Volkswagen Turbo Diesel (2.O TDI) even less  consumptive  as the petrol version but far more pushy infact more than 30 % higher torque thus better acceleration.

All above like 2.4, 2.7 or 3.5 (last one is not available in EUR) is more fun but also more thirsty and thus not really meaningful unless you'd be filthy rich.

An automatic trans will be better for the Diesel or up from 2.4 Ltr otherwise it will be too slow.

Cheers and a big hand to the States from snowy (true story) Germany!

Ralf
