Auto tranny not shifting from 2-3
Hi all,
My'94 3.9 4x4 Dak has 134,000 on the engine. Before I bought the truck about 3 months ago (2500 miles) The original transmission was replaced with a tranny that had 70,000 on it. About a week ago I replaced the PCM (for an unrelated problem) and put a v8 throttle body on it. Ever since then my truck has a VERY hard time shifting from 2nd to 3rd. It will rev all the way to 5000 rpms without shifting (I refuse to push it any further than that) If I rev up and then let off the gas it will shift most of the time but not always. When it does shift it slams into gear and the truck lurches forward. When I let off the gas the clutch doesn't release and the truck engine brakes unless it shifts. I took it to a dodge dealer and they told me the problem was the v8 throttle body. So, I put the original (v6) TB back on along with the original PCM andnothing changed. No matter how Iadjust the TV cablethe problem continues. There's plenty tranny fluid. It gets worse as the truck warms up. It shifts smoothlythrough all other gears. WHAT'S GOING ON!I have noideawhat transmission fluid wasused. Could that be my problem? Can anyone point me inthe right direction? Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance. |
RE: Auto tranny not shifting from 2-3
most of the time what happens is the filter element does not stay fully attached to the neck. when it starts to slip off. it causes some of the fluid not to go where it is suppose to. resulting in burning up the soleniod . take it to a tranny shop and have them drop the pan and change out the fluid. should only be about 100.00. also they may have given you a bad tranny

RE: Auto tranny not shifting from 2-3
Thanks for the reply superdak,
I took it to the shop today and was told that the most likely cause was a sticky throttle valve. He said that sometimes it will loosen up and fix itself if I drive it, but it's not a garantee. He also said that to get at the throttle valve it will be 5 hours of labor. I noticed that when cold the truck will shift into 3rd (though not smoothly) but after 10 minutes of driving it becomes impossible to get it into 3rd gear. So, is there a way to get the throttle valve unstuck? What is a throttle valve and what does it do? Can I get at it by just dropping the pan? Would changing the transmission fliud do anything? What about the filter? Ifanyonehas any information PLEASE respond. I'm running out of money and patience. |
