He is refering to the timing belt, but you may have a chain depending on the engine. If a belt, it should be changed at 120K miles (I usally only go 100K). I'd try a MAP sensor first.

My Mechanic is charging me to clear the code for a vacuum leak and it just comes right back on in a day or tow. He has not however found or isolated the vacuum leak. It does not appear that the performance of the car is affected but I would not know if anything else were wrong if I continued to drive with the light on. How can I determine for my self what the code is and clear it.......or better yet is there not some way to isolate the problem and repair it? The car is a 2002 Intrepid with the smaller V6

u can buy a "code reader" they will spit out the PXXXXX code for ya and you can look it up online.. the simple ones can clear Check engine lights and display the trouble code.. I think u can buy a cheapy one at harborfreight tools for about 30 bux.. or u can drive to schucks or autozone and they may even do it for free for you :-)

EDITING: NOTE: that most code readers price range is between 70 and 300 bux.. Harborfreight sells a cheay version that is good enough to read codes and reset CEL (check engine lights)
