Texas Crewd -> Reso delete (3/16/2008 9:02:21 AM)

Hello Folks,

Well I did it. I deleted the resonators and put in 2.5- 3.5 X 18 stainless tips. What a nice rumble at start up. I can hear the 4 cyl kick in but definately a quiet drone. The most drone I get is with a light peddle in lower rpm. She runs nice and quiet at 60-65 and the same at 80. Any other speeds and you can hear it in the cab. Full throttle is definately a sweet sweet sound..out the back no in cab rubble. I am running a mopar CAI and I could hear it sucking air before but not now. I know the Hemi is breathing better. actually seems to run and shift smoother. I willl probably play with the suitcase next. It's a nice deep sound.  I ran 500 miles in a 50 mph headwind at 80 mph and got right at 21 mpg on reg unleaded  hand calculated. I usually get about 19 running 80 in a headwind.

I did the same thing to my 07 R/T.   I really don't like the drone at 80 so I was thinking of putting the resonators back on and just putting straight pipe in place of the suitcase muffler...and thoughts boys and girls?

For now I am leaving the resonators on my wifes 07 but changing the suitcase out with 40 series flowmasters.

Has anyone out there removed the muffler and left the resonators on?  I'd like to get some feed back before I go that route?

ok after listening to the clips I might try the straight pipe and resonators before I buy the flowmasters.

Scott,

What size straight pipe did you use? 80 mph is my sweet spot, loud at 85-95 mph. I figuer if I am going to be paying 4 bucks a gallon to run her...I wanna hear it burning.

I debated back and forth and researched. I don't recall the specific site but it was on the subject of straight pipe size and a deeper noted less drone 3.5" truck tip. That is what lead me to the larger tips. Edlebrock has a anti drone muffler I am looking at to ditch the suitcase.

Just used either 2 1/2 or 3" pipe i would guess.  Didn't specify to the muffler shop at the time.  I just went and had the resonators put back on and the suitcase muffler removed.  I like it a lot better at 80 but it's not nearly loud enough at city driving or idleing.  My wife wants it louder but not at the cost of the drone sound at 80mph.  We drive back to New Orleans several times a year (540mile trip from nashville) and do about 78-80 the whole way and the drone is just too much to handle.   I have a theory though of what to do...With the suitcase muffler gone I have the perfect sound at 80(no drone) but not loud enough any other time.  There is a product out there called a McCord power plate that fits on a header flange and has a butterfly plate in the middle.  Flip a switch and it opens, flip the switch the other way and it closes.  Now if I take a 45deg cutout (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?sub=1&part=SUM%2D670136&N=700+115&rsview=sku) and this power plate; http://www.mccordcg.com/mpp/mpp.htm I can have the best of both worlds.  Put the cut out right before the resonators (one cut out on each side since it's dual exhaust) and then put a MPP2 (mccord power plate) on each flange I can have quiet on the long drives or straight pipes when I want to be loud.  Only down side is it will run about $300 for the 2 MPP2s + two cut outs.   And I don't know EXACTLY what the straight pipes would sound like.

Just an FYI, YOU TUBE actually has quite a few sound bites and videos of the newer Chargers.
Quality is not always the best but at least you get a wide variety.
