Changed my transmission fluid and filter...got 115,000 miles on my 97 stratus 2.4.  Should have changed the fluid and filter LOOOONG ago.

I had heard  a rattling noise for 1 day coming from the transmission about 6 months ago, thought a rock got up in there with the drive plate so I moved the guard out of the way drove around the parking lot, and the noise stopped.  I assumed it was all better.  Also probably back around 2004 the trans fluid/filter was done by firestone, and they pulled a piece of metal out of the filter.  It looked like the ring of a milk carton in size, metal like it had been stripped off of something.  Transmission still worked, so I just ignored it.

When I was doing the fluid/filter, I also found some (ok a lot) of metal pieces in there.  I am assuming the big one was that rattle I heard about 3 months ago.

Let me know where you think they came from, and how serious it is to drive without these parts in their correct place.  It has been running great, and with the new fluid it shifts real smooth!

My guess is the bearings are from a needle bearing, and the big chunk is: clutch return spring? low/reverse piston return spring? reverse clutch reaction plate? some other random clutch plate?
