Well I'll be....... That looks like a bunch of Grand Prix honeycomb with a GTO badge. Hmmmmm, I never noticed that before, thanks for the close up! It provided some real insight into where Holden is getting it's styling cues, er, uhhh, I mean Pontiac.

Ever driven or rode in one? Or even looked at one up close? Its far from a grand prix. And yep, its more then a 4 banger sport compact, big suprise. You get what you pay for though, twice the car that a Neon is.

You've earned yourself the "Dumb A** Newb Of The Year Award" Congrats. A relative of mine owned a Grand Prix. They look quite similar in alot of ways. Not trying to be offensive. Just laying the hand down when it's needed. -Matt-

Inconvenient bench racing fact: SRT8 = 4100lb/425hp = 9.64lb/hp GTO = 3800lbs/400hp = 9.5lbs/hp On the other hand, in the race that matters (sales race) the Dodges seem to be winning hands down. There are fewer shenanigans in HP rating in the post 'net' horsepower rating world than in the 60s. For the first half of the decade they overrated everything, then they underrated everything toward the end. For example, Olds simply knocked off 20hp off the Toronado 455 when they put it in the 442, just so it would officially be above 9.99lbs/hp (a hard and fast GM rule was to stay above that line for PR purposes). Ford's 428 was immediatly refactored to 360hp from the 335hp official rating in B stock when the Mustang was cleaning everybody's clock at the '68 Winternationals. Mazda and Hyundai actually got sued (?) I think recently for overrating. I don't think there' s much advantage to either or overrating or underrating anymore.

Chrysler should pray for more fans like you badstrat. I'm amazed at how rabid the fans are of old Miradas or Magnums - they weren't exactly the 'must have' cars of their day. On the other hand, just puting in a lower pinion transforms them - they were mostly all 2.45:1 and the 'trailer assist' 3.21:1 seems to be rare. I'm okay with Bob's admiration for the GTO though. I saw in Hemmings muscle machines that vintage GM and Chryslers are commanding super high prices, while old Mustangs and Torinos have been all but forgotten in the old musclecar market - perhaps more evidence of GM/DCX affinity?

MCG recently did an article on the 2 million dollar '71 Hemi Cuda ragtop (yes, that's 2 mill). Just peruse e-Bay listings to see what these things are going for. When I think of the ones I should have bought 25 years ago, or the ones that I used to have... ARGHHHH! The GTO just doesn't cut it styling-wise. I'm with a lot of the folks here that say it's just too generic to everything else in the Pontiac stable. Does any one know if it's available with a manual tranny? I've heard it's supposed to be restyled for the 2007 MY. It may very well be my choice for something new then if they can give it a decent restyle.
