This past week I made my own custom made cold air intake. I used 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent pipe. I coated the pipe in ceramic engine paint, and attached a plastic vent tube and rubber grommet for the sensor. I put a high-flow K&N cone filter on the end and it sounds good. I can feel a noticeable increase in throttle response and get up and go. Whaddaya think?

Markio,
What engine do you have? Did you bend the pipe yourself & if not, who did it for you?

I have the 3.5 R/T. I bought the pipe already bent on e-bay. I bought 2 mandrel bent "L" shaped bends for about $32 bucks and got the filter on K&Ns website for $50 shipped. I had to put a straight section of 2 1/2 inch pipe and cut it to the proper length for the middle section because the 2 L bends weren't long enough. In all I spent about $100, so it will probably end up being cheaper than any good intake that might come out. It really does improve the response and I can tell a difference in performance. It sounds nice too.

OK, great - that's the same as what I have. I'd also be interested to know if you show any fuel economy improvement. I know that many don't care, but as gas approaches $4/gal, it would be nice to find a mod that helps with that, also. My R/T has about 2100 miles on it, and this past weekend, we did about 300 miles of mixed (66% freeway, 34% around town) driving & got 24.5 mpg. The CAI should help with economy during normal cruise by reducing pumping losses, so I would think you might pick up a couple of tenths of mpg.
Please let us know how things go!
