i have found a 89 dakota 3.9 long bed for $600.00.the reverse is out of it and the paint is peeling and it is a 2 tone blue.the rt door has been replaced and the inside is tan(ugly to me) and not sure about a/c.for a trans rebuild it is between $800.00-1200.00.i want a dakota and all i have found is expensive.the paint i am not worried about bc i may take a bodyshop class so i can work on it there.thanks

did he say why the reverse took a dump? (because you dont wanna rebiuld it and have the same problem happen) how many miles on the engine? why did he have to replace the door?
not trying to sound like an a-hole, im just asking so more people can help you and to try to help you avoid a POS.

i bought mine in perfect running condition for 400$, there's no sense in buying a 600$ truck and then spending 1,000 to rebuild the transmission. just my .02

I only paid $900 for my 90 and it only has 170,000kms and is in really good shape. I wouldnt pay more then 400 for that truck

got my '90 for $400. engine and transmission ran fine, just needed some tune up stuff and a couple gaskets replaced. Ive had it for two years and it still runs great. dont pay more than $400 for that truck and expect to be putting a lot of time and money into it.

I've also see a bad torque converter cause the reverse to fail...maybe an easier fix than you think, but I'd take it to a reputable transmission shop for a second opinion if you are serious about the truck
