Hey everyone,

I am about to submit my Beta findings to Harman Becker. I wanted to know what additional features you would like to see in future software releases and I will submit a request to HB asking them to add those features to the radio software.

Currently on my list I have:

1) Add a pause and a stop button to the HDD and JB menu between the fast forward and rewindon screen buttons so that music can be stopped instead of having the music play indefinitely without any way of stopping playback.
2) Ability to rename songs and move songs to different playlists within My Files
3) Enhance USB port to allow a wider range of devices such as a large removable USB hard drive.
4) Ability to change the song playback order instead of having the radio play back in alphabetical or shuffle order only.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated and will probably be implemented with future releases.. so please let me know what you all would like to see as enhancements to the software.

Update: Actually I just submitted the beta form but I will include a feature request form later which will include this wish list. I was going to wait but I would like them to finish up on the beta testing and actually release the software asap so I just sent the form in. I also requested an ETA on the official software release.

I think your #4 covers this but am not entirely sure... When ripping songs from a CD they appear in track order from the CD, from a USB device they do not. Thats a huge issue.
They need to make the "Live traffic" feature useful. I have never gotten one useful bit of info from it, and thats a big reason I wanted this car/Mygig. It needs more updates/functionality.
Should be a way through the "record a trail" feature for the car to "learn" about new roads. The on/off ramp to the highway closest to my house is not on the map (even though it has been there for at least 3-4 years) and the Nav always thinks I'm offroading.

I will try to think of anything else.

Here's a biggie for me...

Support for actual .m3u (or other format) PLAYLISTS instead of this whole "a folder is a playlist"junk. On any other MP3 player I can use playlists that just reference copies of mp3s already on the player instead of having to several copies of a song if I include it in multiple playlists.

I'm sure I can think of others as well but I thought I'd post that while it was on my mind

What about streaming music directly from a USB key instead of having to copy everything. I have a 32Gb USB key that I store my tunes on so I can play them at home and at work without having to have mutiple coppies. Would be very nice to just stuff that in the USB port on the radio and be able to play from it directly as if it was a CD.

I also thought of another thing that's been bugging me about MyGig... The random feature is just... well... too random. Most players' random feature will play songs at random, but will not repeat a song until it's played everything on the list. I noticed the Mygig's random feature sometimes plays the same song 2, 3, sometimes 4 times before another is played once. Also, it would be nice if the random button was near the play, fast forward, rewing buttons instead of on the main menu and/or would keep its on/off setting when you changed albums/playlist/etc. instead of having to go in and click random again

How about being able to turn off that STUPID! NAV guidance prompt voice indefinately?

I find that very irritating that you have to turn her off every single timeyou input a new destination.

I have one, and I have already spoke to HB about it..... Make the MyGig do what is stated in the manual in regards to the bluetooth status icons. They (HB) acknowledged that the lack of status icons was an oversight on someone's part, and that Chrysler has choosen not to address the issue. I was told that the MyGig should send the staus signal(CAN) out to the EVIC, and that this wasn't done. I am not sure what happens if you don't have EVIC. I don't understand why the MyGig can't have some types of icons....as simple as a signal strength indication when the devices are connected. Once activated then the other icons could be displayed.....


That status icons would be battery strength, signal strength, (according to the manual, even mail/SMS icons). Here's a basic one, some indication that the two devices(MyGig) and Phone are even connected!


It's happened to me once or twice where the devices didn't connect, but I didn't know until I tried a call. Upon occasion I would have to power the radio off/on, to get the bluetooth to connect! Quite a pain, when there is an incomming call and you didn't know the devices weren't connected!

How about some ability to change the look (colors, font, etc.). My $20 phone has at least 6 different "moods".
Also, when you want to use the screen saver, you should be able to w/o jumping to the menu. There should just be a "hot button" always on screen.

futil im new here i jst bought a dodge avenger sxt and wanted som info on this update see i read all these posts they have been useful but im not understanding do i go to a dealership and get this done and will they charge me and second can i get a update mailed to me by harman and i dont really know if mine is non navigation or not how do i tell and im also having a prob withthe dvd player i want it to play while driving bc i need it for my passangers it doesnt play while driving only in park and wanted to know if u know if it is legal or not to have a dvd player in the car if it has to be visible to the driver or not to be legal i live in new york dont know the law very well or how to find out

Some great suggestions so far! I'm glad to see the"no Pause button" at the top of the list. I am totally baffled as to the reasoning in not having this. It has to be the only CD player ever made by any manufacturersince day one that is missing such an important button.

The biggest issue I have is the pause/tick soundsbetween tracks when playing CD's and also playing songs on the HDD. I have read of others having this issue, is this widespread or are there some who don't experience this?Any ideaif there is a solution in the works?

A few more suggestions:

1. A "reboot" option via a button sequence would be very convenient, vs having to pull fuse/unhook battery.

2. I don't know if a firmware update couldaddress this or not, but it would be nice to have afriendlier"emergency eject" for stuck discs, that is, allowing the door to be freely opened instead of having to "pry" it open.

3. An "anti-theft"boot password to lockout the radio, only needed if power is disconnected.

Keep the suggestions coming... After about 2 weeks I'll compile all the requests in here and send them in to Harman Becker. Since theyre releasing this beta soon im sure theyre not going to consider new features until after the release anyway.

You guys have some really good ideas..I really liked the password on power removal anti theft prevention.. Nothing makes me happier than knowing someone busted their asses trying to steal my radio and knowing they cant use it.If you guys want ill write up instructions on how to put a small bomb in your radio that will explode when removed from the car possibly taking a hand with it.. Im not even joking.. ill write this up if you guys want..(Misspent youth)

robotosgambit, You can get your software updated at the dealer but you might get charged if you go to the dealer to update the software, The software updates can be done by yourself and while the newest version is about to be released within a week or so, you can update your software by following the instructions on this post http://www.dodgeforum.com/m_1103210/tm.htmwhich contains the latest "Released" software for the MyGIG radio. As soon as the latest software updates are released I will be posting them for everyone to download so you can either go to the dealer, download them from this site and update them yourself, or contact Harman Becker for a CD and also update them yourself. I will have the newest software up asap so you might as well wait a little while and then download them from the above link.

As far as playing DVDs while in drive there is only one solution for that (well there are currently 2 but I won't recommend FreeGIG to anyone after a few people got burned from the company that makes FreeGIG because they didn't test the FreeGIG on all MyGIG radios and software versions)
Soo.. The MyGIG LockPick will enable you to unlock DVD in drive and quite a few other features. I have it installed in my car.. Just because Chrysler thinks that customers cant handle video in cars I don't think there are any actual laws against it. Maybe in 1 or 2 states in the US but I dont think that is a widespread law yet. Worst case scenario... Turn the video off after you get pulled over by a cop :)

You can tell if your MyGIG radio is a Nav equipped radio or not by looking at the lower right hand of the radio.. If you see RER then its a MyGIG with Navigation, if you see REN then its a MyGIG with outNavigation.

These two are of low importance, but would be nice...

1) The ability to select from a few different voices for the NAV prompts

2) Maybe this one could be turned on or off by the user.... but pronunciation of street names like other GPS units (ie. "Turn left onto Cerritos Avenue" instead of "Make the second turn left") I figure maybe this could be turned on or off by the user because I know those sometimes bug people when it pronounces the street name incorrectly, wheras I just think it's funny ;)

Altough I really love the MyGIG features I am convinced there should be better ways to manage the music files stored on the HD.

Right from the very first day, when I went to the car dealer to have my Avenger delivered, I had taken couple of CD's with me that Iimmediately put into the radio systemjust to check how great it could be to have my favorites songs copied on the hard disk.

I also had some MP3 CD's which I wanted to copy, then some other music on a USB stick, etc...

The problem is that I had several identical files with different names (sometimes written in capital letters, sometimes just the song name was spelled differently), some other files which I finally decided I wouldn't want them on the HD anymore and so on...

And I now that I want to clear, sort or rename tiltles I find it really complicated and time consuming to go throught the MyGIG menus...

Wouldn't it just be possible to connect the MyGIG to a laptop trough USB port in order to manage (copy, move, rename, sort, delete) my music files?

I really like the idea to connect to a laptop through the USB... They could use netbios or something similar to filesharing to share the drive so you could see it and manage it from a laptop just like a shared drive.

I also had another a bit ambitious idea that probably won't be implemented because it would require too many software changes for something the hardware wasn't exactly designed for. With that said, here it goes....

a) Support for USB 802.11a/b/g (or either of the three) sticks. They would probably have to specify compatibility with a select few since drivers would have to be preloaded on the system.
b) Support for NetBIOS filesharing.

With these two features, users could synchronize music stored on PCs, media centers, NAS units, etc. over their wireless network. Maybe even some simple interface to specify a share to synchronize with, so whenever you pull the car into the driveway (assuming you have the 802.11 stick plugged in) it could synchronize with your computer's library automatically when it gets signal from the wireless network you configure it to connect to.

Sorry, I'm a Network Operations Manager and a bit of a tech geek so I look for ways to interconnect about any electronic device:eek: Anyway, I'll get my head out of the clouds and just hope for some of the more necessary changes we have listed above :)

Oh yeah, speaking of necessary changes... aenimon reminded me in the Mods/Hacks thread...

...2) Also, the impression I've gotten about the MP3 player is that it allows you to select an artist, but then just gives you a laundry list of songs with no option to have it show albums, and then songs in successive menu's. Is there any word of a potential change to this in an update, since this is a pretty MP3 player basic inclusion?


It would be nice if when you go to select an artist, once you do it gives you the option to select a specific album from that artist, rather than just all songs by the artist.

For the Nav Guidance annoyance, can't you just turn the volume down all the way for the nav guidance and then it will remain low over ignition cycles?

This one drives me nuts.

Improve the Navigation Search : "Input by Name" feature.

Example / Problem :
I'm sitting in my car and want to find the closests Target, Walmart, Best Buy for example.
1. I have no idea what type of POI this would fall under.
2. Im not sure which / what cities around me these stores exist.
3. I dont have the store phone number.

( Like any other Navigation System I've Owned..... )

I want / should to be able to :
1. Press "Input by name"
2. Type out "Best Buy"
3. Be able to see ( quickly ) what Best Buys are around me and be able to sort by Name or Distance.
4. I want the list of Best Buy Stores in a view such as :

Example Best Buy Stores ( Sorted by my choice of distance or name ) :

Best Buy - Manchester, CT 5.1 Miles
Best Buy - Holyoke, MA 12.8 Miles
Best Buy - Ellington, CT 29.6 Miles

Just to add to that...

It would also be nice if it were an actual search and not just a match. What I mean by that is that you have to have everything exactly correct from the beginning to get results. The only example I can think of right now (although pretty obvious if you were looking for it) is if you were looking for Home Depot near you, you wouldnt get any results if it were in the NAV as "The Home Depot" since you didnt put in the "The" in the beginning

Something I would like to see is some sort of way to limit the search results as far asdistance goes. I couldn't count the number of time that I have entered in a business and what comes up is 2,100 miles away!! I know there is a sort by distance but for whatever reason I seem to get initial results from businesses hundreds or thousands of miles away. I would like to have a way to enter a default setting that, for example, lets me select "Limit results to xxx miles" and have it remember that setting unless I go in and change it. 99.9% of the time I am looking for something that is within 10 or 20 miles from where I am at. This would also make the search faster and have a lot less results in the listings.

Something else that is irritating is the amount of "repeated" listings. The "Outback" restaurantcan come up as "Outback Steakhouse", "Outback Restaurant", etc., yet they end up having the same listings.

Nah Silkk19 (http://www.dodgeforum.com/showProfile.asp?memid=73105)I mean when you input a new destination and then you click continue or whatever after it gives you the trip overview, that woman's voice comes on and says "You are in an area where turn by turn guidance cannot be provided" or she eitherstarts out giving directions.

For eachnew trip that isentered you need to go in to guidance prompts and turn her off. Then if you go to your recent destinations list she should still be turned off for the trip that was previously entered, and even then sometimes she still isnt off for some reason.

So what I am proposing is that HB should make it possible that when you go in to guidance prompts and turn her off, she should be off for everything, whether you enter a new trip or not because it's really irritating to have to turn her off every single time you enter a new destination.

How about a feature to backup your settings to USB?

It's got a USB port.. it can be read...

Address book, pictures, nav settings, radio station settings..

They could back up everything except for the music. (that would get them into legal issues maybe)

I just had my radio swapped out and now get to re-add all my addresses etc.. very annoying.

Would be great to have a sort of flat file that we can use to load up the addresses and numbers.. :)

I think the firmware update smokes your address book etc as well. (again... annoying)

I just wanted to bump this thread because I thought it was a great idea for everybody to put in their thoughts and ideas for things they'd like to see on the MyGig. Futil, I'm not sure if you sent the initial posts in, but I think after awhile I will compile all these into a document to send off to HB. It should be pretty useful for them.

Other than that, I have a few more enhancements I have thought of...


1) Option to reverse the Prev Track & Next Track hard buttons. I know they are correct they way they are; Up should be next, and down Previous (which is why I am saying to put in an option to reverse them because not everybody will agree with me). For some reason it bugs me that then I press the up button it plays the song below the one I am currently listening to.

2) Phone/NAV/Media Volume: The NAV Guidance volume should be adjusted as dBcompared to the media volume (display as % for a more friendly interface since most people dont know dB) ie. NAV volume should be adjusted as say something between 0% to 300% of media volume. This way when you turn up your radio, the NAV volume will be adjusted as well. Sometimes I have the radio turned way up, so I have to go in and adjust NAV prompts (if I'm using them) so I can actually hear them over the radio, but then when I have the radio at a more human volume and forget to turn the NAV volume down I feel like the NAV lady is screaming at me :-(

3) There should be a soft key while using UConnect on a phone call, drop the bluetooth and transfer to the handset.

4) When you do transfer to the handset, I noticed radio comes back on (which is ideal) but when you end the call, UConnect cuts back in to say "Phone call completed"... This is not necessary. UConnect knows that the call was transfered to the handset (obviously, since when you do it goes back to radio media), so it should know then to ignore the signal from the phone telling it the phone call is has ended so not to interupt the media.

5) More robust voice commands: I recently got a mic, but was slightly dissapointed to see the voice command setup. I don't think everything should be in a tree as it is. I realize some things need to be like destination entry but for others you shouldnt have to go through a command tree. Also, even with the tree setup you shouldn't have to wait for it to read off the available options to you before you can say the next command.

6) Again with voice commands: MyGig has an advandage over the Microsoft Sync in several ways, but one feature of the Sync that stands out, is the use of voice commands. (ie. Play artist The Ramones) This will probably require a more advanced voice recognition software since it doesn't have to only recognize certain commands, and probably require more voice training from the user's perspective, but it will be well worth it!

7)HDD Media Selection: I believe this has been said before, but this is where a tree would come in handy. With a tree in this aspect, a user should be able to hit the "Music" soft key, select "Artist" then select the artist from a list, then have all the albums from that artist displayed with soft keys at the bottom "List all Songs" "Play all Albums" (Of course if the user selects "List all songs", the list that currently is displayed when you select "Artist" will be displayed, and the "Play all Albums" should be changed to "Play all Songs" as it does now). The same could be done for other fields.

I haven't sent them in yet for 2 reasons..

1. HB is flooded with work and emails due to staff going on vacation and the software release.. (I wanted to let things calm down a bit as the suggestions might be ignored if they are overwhelmed with other work)
and
2. I wanted to give everyone enough time to voice their opinions as I am sure everyone didn't get the chance to chime in yet..

But since I am flooded with tech emails, requests for helpon the web site, and adding content to the web site as well as nearly burned out from all the projects I keep taking on.. So If you want to compile all the requests into a single document and submit them then you can.. otherwise ifyou don'tget to itI will shortly. (Just please let me know if you do so that I wont duplicate your work) :) The last thing I need is to redo work that has already been done..

I hear a better emergency CD ejection method is in the works but you may want to mention that anyway..

First time here.. I just bought a Chrysler 300. I was playing with myGig and noticed the same problems you all mentioned. I have one problem though, when I plugged in my Ipod into my car to upload my songs, only 3-4 playlists showed up to choose from. Why is that? Majority of my songs were uploaded from CDs. Where is the rest of my songs and what can I do so I can upload them as well.

By the way, is the limit really only 1600 songs regardless if you used up the 20 gig HD?

I don't think it is limited by the number of songs, just the amount of available space. I believethe 1,600 song limit was calculated based on the available space of the original 20GB HD and the actual limit might be slightly more or less than that.

Okay, here's my enhancement request. When using the voice commands it recites the available options and THEN shows you the list. I'd prefer that the list be displayed as it is reciting them so I can have afew more seconds to scan what I want to say while it is talking.

I've never tried uploading from an iPod so I don't know what the block might be.

However, if you're doing this while in motion you might see if you get different results while parked. I know some things have a limited # of pages when moving, like the Points of Interest list.

I would like one of my steering wheel controls to control the voice activation feature!!! I mean, I can control the volume, change from sat to HDD, change stations, tracks etc. from the steering wheel. But I can't activate the voice control from a steering wheel mounted control. It drives me nuts! It would be great if for instance I could hold down the music note button for 2 seconds and it would activate the voice feature, or just make it so that the music note button activates the voice command and not switch between cd/hdd/sat etc. and we could just as easily push it and then say "hard drive." That would be great. Then we wouldn't have to reach over to the radio to activate the voice feature every time.

Futil, I have a request that I thought others would like also.

It would be nice to be able to turn off or on individual buttons on the navigation screen. I don't use many of them or a couple of them at all. It would be nice to be able to have only the ones you want on the screen so if you need or want you can see more of the map but still have a couple buttons you use. Example to be able to have only the north arrow, zoom, and not the trail button or 3or2D button. Others may want to choose which ones they want and not other ones. My handheld GPS's have this feature and my fishfinder/gps also has it. I hope it wouldn't be too hard for HB to do this.

Okay, here's another ambitious idea... (something that shouldnt come until the more necessary changes are done)... Expand on the bluetooth connectivity. Right now, the unit acts only as a headset that the phone pairs with. Granted, this will take a bit of work and development like some of my other thoughts, but a lot of phones (most now) have internet access, and have the ability to connect to a laptop via bluetooth to provide internet access to that laptop. If this functionality were supported on the MyGig, we could have internet access on the MyGig to give it another source to lookup businesses for NAV. Could also be used for more up to date GraceNotes or CDDB while connected.

This afternoon I was experimenting with whether the Gracenotes database would recognize names of songs that I converted to MP3, instead of "track01.WMA" or whatever that is on some of my albums that I uploaded from CD. It didn't but now I havea 101MB duplicate album of the same music in a different format on my HDD.

So far I haven't found a way to delete just one album or playlist from the HDD; it just gives me the option to delete them all. The option to delete individual playlists and albums would be a welcome enhancement if it's not there already and I just haven't found it yet.

Well that went quickly, I compiled all the requests up to this point and will submit them to Harman Becker.I'll wait till we build up another 3 pages then send the next batch in.

I am going to send the list to someone I know cares about the product enough to consider each option and not to someone Idon't know who will likely lose the list in their email.. You all know whothat's going to be :)

I know that this may be too late for your request going in. What about being able to have visualizations during music playback (kind of like a "action screensaver") like in Windows Media Player (Ihave had my Avenger for a week so I don't know if it can do this)?Also, it would be nice if they could split the equalizer into more than three channels to be able to customize the sound better.
