When I called the dealer and the Dodge 800 number they both had the "problem, what problem?" story down pat. My balljoints are a poppin and they acted like they never heard about it before. I even gave them the TSB numbers. No help. So what is the real story? Who do I have to call. It sounds like some of the people on this forum have gotten the work done via warranty. I just went past the 3 year mark and I have 53K on the clock. Is there an extended warranty for the balljoints? The dealer has "no idea what I am talking about." What's up?

Just in case, I priced the Moog upper balljoints at $48 per side. Has anyone done the swap themselves? Are any special tools needed? I have compressor, die grinder and impact chisel and jack/jackstands. $500 to 700 to have someone do it sounds like alot. What do you all think?

Thanks,
Dan

Recalls do not fall under warranty expiration limits. If your Durango never had the recall work performed even if it has 150k miles, you still qualify to get the recall work done as long as your Durango falls within the recall models.

Is this dealer a Dodge certified OEM dealer or a used dealer? If it is a Dodge OEM dealer, I would not let them touch my durango if they never heard of the balljoint recall. That was BIG news that was even reported on the television.

I am still not getting any cooperation from the dealer. Does anybody have a suggestion (that is legal) on how to get the recall number so I can get them to acknowledge the problem?

If I can't get any progress made, I will do it myself. Are any special tools needed to do the job?
Dan

I think you can still enter your VIN at Dodge's website and it will let you know if that recall has been performed or not or if your particular durango qualifies for the recall.

Goto www.dodge.com

Click on owner services at the top center of the page.

Click on recall notices that is under Vehicle Care Center somewhere around the center upper left part of the page.

Here is the direct link for you to find it.

http://www-5.dodge.com/webselfservice/dodge/index.jsp?screenName=recall&country=us&emailUrl=goToEmailForm%28%27R%27%29

If it does qualify for the recall and has not been performed yet, I recommend you not to take it to the dealer that does not acknowledge this recall. Never know, you might get your durango back with more problems than it started out with. Take it to a reputable Dodge dealer that knows about this recall and will treat you right.

thanks everyone, I just went to that site and saw that my ball joints have not been done. we just bought the truck this month. we also just noticed that the drivers door key lock is damaged. I used the remote for the test drive.

Is that how you shut off the alarm once it's been tripped? the drivers door?

Yeah - take the key and work the drivers door lock up and down - A few cycles should clear the alarm.

I have an 02 Durango that we purchased about 6 months ago. The previous owner gave paperwork showing where he had had the ball joint recall taken care of. But I think it is still squirrely. We dont hear the popping noise, but if driving straight down the road, hit a bump just right, it feels like the wheels "swerve"??? Almost like a starting fishtail but the truck actually stays in a straight line. You can almost feel it in the steering wheel. I dont like that and it makes me very paranoid. We woulod have thought something wrong of it even if the balljoint recall had never come up. But since the recall has already been taken care of, what are we to do???

Jack up the front end and try wobbling the tires. If they wobble look at everything that hooks into the wheel (ie. lower ball joints, upper ball joints, tie rods, etc.) and replace anything that has play in it. The upper ball joints will be easy since the old ones were cut out. Tie rods are easy as well. I had a lot of problems with my lower balljoints though. It took a hydraulic press to get them out. I acutally broke a pulley puller trying to get it out which take 5 tons of pressure to do.

Just checking up on this recall, I had the uppers replaced be the dealer, as per the recall, and don't you know it the break caliber locks up on me about 3 weeks later. I don't driver the truck often and I mite have had 50 miles on it when the breaks lock, So I take it back to them and they break the bleeder off and tell me I have to pay for a new caliber......1k later and I get my truck back, and they want to do an oil service ....NO F...ING WAY will I go back to them.
Did they cause the problems???? not intenionaly I sopose,,, But if they break somthing aren't they responsible for there misstaks????
any way just adding to the clip.........
