Default Need Help Bad

Howdy,

Unfortunitly my first post here is not a happy one, I own a '99 Dodge Durango and I love my rango but it has some serious issues now. My father while I was away decided to have the transmission fluid changed for me. Well he told me about it and I told him if there was one place I didn't want it done it was at pep boys. H took it to Pep Boys (I hate those guys with a burning passion) and they manage to screw it up badly. It leaks like a faucet and there's not a dang thing I can do about it. I took it back they said it was a little over filled so they fixed that, and sure enough a day or two later it's leaking again. This is my only vehicle and I live in Podunk McNowhere. It's still drive able and all so I'm driving and I took it back they said they missed a botl somewhere and the yput it back. The leak went away for a while and then it started to rattle like a diesel so I went home and on my way the oil pressure dropped to 0 and the engine seized. I guess the intake manifold was cracked among other things. I now have a rebuilt 5.9L V8 in it and the transmission leak has returned. We had the mechanic (not stupid ****ing pepboys) take a look at it and he said that he had found gobs of metal filings in the fluid, he flushed it and refilled it so now the leak has returned. Please if there is anyone that can help me figure out where hte cause of this is I'd be much obliged. I'm not incredibly Mechanically Inclined that's why I'm not in the motor-pool but any and all help is very much appriciated. Thank you all again.

An update, the U joints have gone sour and are being replaced right now. Also having the transmission worked on tomorrow I will post with what they say happened to it. There's 5 bad U-Joints I'm currently only replacing 2 of them that I'm still amazed are attached.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, I agree to stay the hell away from Pepboys or any of the large chain stores for that matter. It is very difficult to diagnose stuff like that over the net, let us know what the outcome of your transmission is. I would at the very least demand Pepboys refund the money for the service. You take it in and have nothing but trouble ever since including engine AND transmission failure, that is unheard of.

I know I keep saying this but you may want to check if your vehicle is one on the recall list for the same thing your replaceing the joints and well the transmission though not probable it is posible that by them not replacing all the bolts the transmission is not seating properly thus leakage. Like I said not probable but it's possible.

Howdy,

Well it all came back, what happened is Pep boys when they flushed out the transmission fluid the first time they missed a screw.... that was the cause of leak one, they fixed that by torquing on a new one which Mushroomed the gasket and caused leak number two. $291 to repair. I'm currently trying to get them to pay for all reapirs in full done by other certified mechanics.... not highschool students....

I checked the recall and really the only thing that effects me to my knowledge that I found was air bags. The ball joints should be on the recall but from what I heard dodge refuses to aknowledge those on my make and model year. I'm still looking around to see if the ball joints are indeed recalled though, just have to find time, I've been so busy.
