Can I pick your brains a min and ask what the difference is between long and short tube headers? I have the JBA exhaust, do you think it will make an easier install sticking with JBA or do they all pretty much bolt up in the same place? Thanks! -Rob

From a 80thousand foot view the biggest differrence between Shot tube (ST) and Long tube (LT) headers is the ST will produce a little more HP in the lower RPMs, LT will produce HP through most of the RPM range more so on the top end.

Baldy got it right, their going to match up reguardless what third party you go with

Yeah after posting this Q I did a litlle online research and the consensus I was able to garner from it was that unequal length short tube headers are little better than stock, equal length short tube headers are marginally better. Mid length do an even better job and long tube headers cause a general increase in the power arc across the board because they do a better job of being able to scavange the exhaust from the cylinder heads. The drawbacks to the long tube headers over their shorter bretheren seem to be; higher cost, more heat generated by a greater surface area, a minor loss of ground clearance, difficulty in accessing the spark plugs and they aren't smogable in some states.
Now I just need to find out if they are smogable where I'm at !   Also some manufacturers claimed reduced heat if they are ceramic or titanium coated and a smoother exhaust flow. Whether this is true or not or if the difference is minuscule I don't know yet. Does this all sound true in your guys experience as well? Thanks!-Rob

Watch out, all of them develop cracks over time.  No matter what brand, style, or coating.  For some reason header manufacturers have not been able to engineer the same longevity, as the crappy stock exhausts, that seemingly last forever...
