Apparent electrical problems with my '95 Intrepid

Hey there, thought I'd post here and see if I can get any words of wisdom...

I currently have my 1995 Dodge Intrepid in the shop, they did an electrical diagnosis on it, and at current believe that there is either something wrong with the wiring, or that there is something wrong with the Electric Module. The issue that is occuring is that the car dies when it is not being used, sometimes within a few hours. I've assumed so far that the problem is due to lights in the car either staying on when the vehicle is turned off, or as the technician so far has said, that something keeps on turning on randomly that should not be on, and that it sucks the battery dry when the car is not being used.

Now, I really don't want to have to spend the money for a whole new module and such if it is not necessary... so I thought I'd ask to see if any of you have had this problem before, or might know what causes the lights to remain on even when the car is turned off.

Hope to hear feedback soon!

GREMLINS!!!!

Seriously, if the lights remain on, it’s either a faulty switch, wire, or BCM.  If the shop already T/S it for you and you think their suggestion is unnecessary, bring it to another shop for a second opinion or T/S the system yourself (if you have a MM and schematic and know how to use them).  BTW, are you referring to interior or exterior lights?

Well at current, I myself have noticed two things that probably should not occur. One was that after turning off the car on sunday, all the break lights remained on, and could not find a way to turn them off... this problem I have only seen occur once. Also, while I was driving my car over to the shop where it is currently, the interior lights (above and in between the driver and passenger seat) were on, even when they were switched 'off'. They were giving off a slightly dimmer source of light than in the 'on' switch position. They still have it in the shop because, in their terminology, they are trying to make the car 'fail' while they are present, so they can try and determine the problem, such as if these lights switch on while the car is off, so they might be able to pinpoint the issue. So far, they don't know what's causing it. If they think it is the control module, I probably will take it some where else for a second opinion...

Sadly, I know nothing about cars, and so I cannot begin to know what I could do myself to fix it. *smirks some* I just don't want to spend, what was it... about $700 for something that they said if it doesn't work, it just doesn't work. Not worth it at this point. Hoping it's just a bad wire!

You could always try to get one from a junkyard or e-bay cheaper

I could, at this point... however that still does not guarantee if that'll fix the problem. *smirks* They want to keep it in the shop until Saturday to see if it acts up again while they're present, to see if they can pinpoint the problem. One thing they said is that apparently the dome lights (The interior lights that are normally on when the car door is open, but in my case some times randomly turn on while the car is going with doors closed?) might be the problem, and they said depending on what occurs in the next few days, that possibly disconnecting them 'might' solve the overall issue, because I REALLY don't want to spend too much money on this car. It's supposed to be my crappy 'learning to drive' car, not my shining pride and joy... *grins*

Thank you for the advice though! I'm still hoping it's something simple, like a bad wire or something... *smirks*
