Sounds kinda weird! but I am not gonna say it isnt, its kinda unlikely? Sounds like something electrical at least. I wouldnt necessarily say the motor is skrewed. Sounds almost like the situation that occured to me, except it got the point where the truck quit, wouldnt run or start. Here is what I found, on the drivers side under your fuse/relay box, the cluster of wires running along your fender well hooking into that box, peal the covering away from the wires looking for a connection of 2 wires into 1, it will probably have a green rotting corrosion surrounding the area and be toward the center of all the wires. This Y connection is part of your ignition and it is very common that it'll come apart from the corrosion causing my prob. Just cut the connector out and use a butt connector or similiar connection. My truck would run fine, or cut in and out, from a loose connection there. If thats not the case, check the cap and rotor, it could be worn, or the plug wires could have breaks in them. Hope all this helps

Oh yeah and the timing is adjusted through the distributor, so it could be out of time, but you would be able to tell pretty quick, it would run rough all the time and overheat. One of these wouldnt hurt either, you can get them through most auto parts stores for cheaper than this, http://www.haynes.com/products/searchType/vehicleApplicationSearch2/searchEnd/yes/sfID1//sfID2//sfID3//year/1992/make/Dodge/model/Dakota%20PUs/x/22/y/12/productID/119 The book will help you on most everything

Truck will not start- A common problem in the trucks, primarly ones made between 1993 thru 1995, was failure (corrosion) of the splice that feeds battery power to the automatic shutdown (ASD) and fuel pump relays. If these relays do not get battery power, your truck will not be able to start. The splice is located underneath the Power Distribution Center (PDC), which is the black box located behind the
battery.

I would replace the cap and rotor just encase and check ur crank sensor
