I know there was a recall for certain 2005 Durangos due to fuel overflowing when you fill the gas tank.  We just recently found out
about this.  My husband's 2005 Durango now has the same exact problem, but it's out of warranty by three months (purchased by orig owner 11/2004; now has 34500 miles) and his VIN is not under the recall.

Is he just SOL, or has anyone had any luck getting Dodge to cover a recall that doesn't support a particular VIN?  It's the
SAME problem, but he has gotten nowhere with the dealer or Dodge so far.  It will cost $700 to fix if we pay for it. We both feel like this is a huge safety issue.  Last time he filled up, he was literally sprayed with gasoline.

Thanks for any insight you might have.

Don't know if I can help, I do not have same problem as you, but recently experienced some problems with my 2005.  Have 28k on it, and long story short, my warranty expired on 12/18 of 2007.  While the repair is covered under their 3/360000 bumper to bumper warranty, Dodge starts calculating warranty coverage from the date the car is first serviced, not by mileage or length of time, unless you have never had it serviced.  Since my car was orginally serviced with 4 miles on it, and bought in Dec of 04, I got screwed!  I called Dodge directly and begged and pleaded with them to cover it even though I was 2 months out of warranty date...NO WAY!  They would not work with me at all, nor the dealer.  I was told WARRANTY EXPIRED!  So I would go ahead and try to contact them directly and plead your case, but don't hold your breath.  My repair cost 300.00 and I am hoping it is the last one for a while that I have.

Pm me your VIN and I will see if your Durango falls under the recall.  If it does not, $700.00 in my opinion is too much for this repair.  I feel more like $475.00 is closer to the amount to do this.  Or you could buy the part and put it in yourself...The recall applies to Durangos built through 10-12-2004.  And the warranty starts from the "in service" date.  This is the date that it is bought not the date that a service was performed...

There was only one recall on your Durango.  It was a G07 instrument cluster recall, and was performed on 2-11-08. The in service date of the Durango was 11-1-04 so the 3 years warranty expired on 11-1-07. The Durango also shows a build date on 11-1-04, so your Durango falls outside of the recall date and  which makes me think that this was a fleet or rental vehicle before you bought it.  The recall on the fuel spilling required replacing the whole fuel tank.  You could see if the dealer will sell you the recall parts and then get someone else to do the labor.  The recall part number that you need to ask for is "CBE0E010" (CBE zero E zero 1 zero) and retails for $122.92.  The labor should be 3 to 3 1/2 hours...Call me if you have any questions.  I may noy be able to help but I might be able to lead you in the right direction to try and get help.....DAVID

I also own a 2005 Durango SLT, how can I find out what, if there are any recalls on my vehicle.  I think my warranty will be up soon and I want to get any issues out of the way before it expires.

Thanks

If you want to find out ablut any recalls on your Durango, PM me the last 8 digits of your VIN.  I can tell you if there are any.  BTW recalls are free, no matter if your under warranty or not..

I was just going to say that. RECALLS are very different from WARRANTY service. One is free regardless of the mileage and time owned.

Thank you David.  Yes, it was a rental vehicle before we bought it with about 5k miles on it.  I will check into buying those parts.  We do have a local mechanic that we really like, so perhaps we could buy those parts and have him install them.  Probably a bit cheaper than the dealer.

Thanks again!

We have the same issue with our D.  When filling up, unless I listen for the tank getting full and manually stop it before it gets full and clicks off, gas pours out all over.  Even on the slowest setting on the pump, it still comes out.  I checked into the recall and ours was built 10 days after the recall time period.  Annoying.  The dealer and Dodge both told me there was nothing that can be done.  This is so frustrating.  It's obviously the same problem the D's under the recall time period have.  It does the exact same thing.  I wish just once a company would not look at an issue as black and white.  We are people, not robots.  A rule is not always that simple.  If someone walked into my office and said they had a problem, I'd work with them even if the issue didn't fall under "normal procedure."  It really is a safety issue.  If Dodge was smart, they'd help us out.  Instead, they'll probably deal with the wrong person that will get hurt by this somehow and end up paying thousands or millions in legal fees instead of fixing our $200-$300 problem.
