Default What happened??!!

What happened to the interior? It looks as if none of the ideas made it to production. The console, the steering wheel, the dash. That wheel is just some off the shelf part. And an automatic is the only transmission according to the Dodge website. 35 year waitand leave it to the Dodge bean counters to screw it up.

a few things. they used interior parts that they had laying around. i had the pleasure of sitting in the concept, and ive driven SRT sedans, and the srt seats arent that big of a downgrade, if at all.

the dash, center console, and door panels appear to also use some LX sedan parts..which helps keep costs down.

as for the automatic transmission. ive heard from several dodge employees, at least one of which is a member of this forum, that dodge REALLY wanted to make sure that this first batch has as few "bugs" as possible. the 5-speed autotrans that they went with his been proven to handle the power of the 6.1 in the other 6.1 vehicles, and by using that, they know that they can trust the transmission. the 6-speed shown in the concept was a relatively untested setup in the real world, both from the angle of the manual transmission effect on the engine, and the engines effect on the transmission.

the manual transmission is supposed to come along with the 2009 models, along with some new engines and trimlines. there have been dodge statements mentioning the V6 and 5.7 models, with a manual trans mated to the 5.7 and 6.1.

I agree that they should have used the interior from the concept version but I still love the way it looks. I already have my "kitchen pass" to get one once I pay off my Charger. Anyone have any odd jobs they need done?????

Felt the same way about the interior as well as the loss of the butterfly ram air hood. Though I'm sure the aftermarket will come up with something for the hood, it will never be O.E.M. And there is a reason Air Grabber cars of yesteryear sell at a premium today...people love that you could do that then. Same w/ tri powers on GTOs etc., the differences from the norm is what makes them unique. I still hold out that they may do some "Shakers" or something, but my guess not until 2010.

Agree about Auto trans too, but just like the Hemi introduction, they held off until it was good and ready and for good reason...and it has paid off for them. This is one heavy car to be banging gears, so best they test it well. Probably heavier than a 69 Pontiac Grand Prix w/ 455 and 4speed (yes, they made them)...that's alot pressure to hold.
