Default '02 Dakota Quad Cab Sport

When headlight switch is turned to "off" and ignition is turned to off, headlights come on and stay on. If engine is left running, and light switch is turned off, AND, wait until dash lights go off (sometimes seconds, sometimes minutes), then engine can be turned off and headlights will not re-light. If engine is turned off before dash lights go off, headlights immediately come back on and STAY ON.

Have changed headlight switch in dash three (3) times and headlight relay under the hood (in fuse/power box) once. No change or repair of the problem.

Very irritating. Anyone have any ideas. Mechanics can't find the problem.

Very embarassing and time consuming. Hope someone out there can help me.

Thanks. gw903

Yes, that is my thought, they should stay on for a minute or two, but if they stay on longer than that the problem is with whatever controls the timer for them.
