How does this perform in mpg and performance for those of you who have used it in your 4.7L? Just bought mine and have not gone through a tank of gas yet but noticed the closest flex fuel station is 90 miles away from me. [:@]

Thanks MrNobody. I didn't realize E85 got that much worse fuel mileage. I wonder if the price is cheaper than gas to make up the difference?

It is about a wash, the thing is you have to be careful. E85 is thicker and will block up your injectors. So...you guess is as good as mine. At least they are comming out with a Hybrid, advertised 40% INCREASE, which means 23 or 24 mpg highway or 16 to 17 highway for E85.

E85 is total BS.

Mileage will be SIGNIFICANTLY less... as is attested to in the government site above. You are not going to drive less... so the result?! MORE fuel to buy (using more oil, paying more taxes, etc.) Also not mentioned is that burning ethanol blends actually means more of a mess in the air/environment.

E85 actually costs more to make than it sells for. Government subsidies make up the difference. AND... it takes more energy to produce ethanol and thus the E85 type blends than it does to make gasoline. Propane, Natural Gas, transportation costs, etc... all elevated in E85 production.

E85 is not the answer for the environment nor the answer for less oil consumption. It is the fuel for crappy mileage and more fuel sales.

Don't get me started. Go get educated instead.

I'm back. Let's do the math:

MPG Gas = 13
MPG E85 = 9
E85 = 30.7% poorer fuel economy

15,000 miles driven annually on the average = 1154 gallons of gas/1667 gallons of E85 (513 MORE gallons of fuel for the same annual mileage)

Gas @ $3 per gallon.
E85 @ $2.70 per gallon (Here in Indiana, E85 is less than 10 cents per gallon cheaper however!)

Gas @ $3/gal X 1154 gallons = $3462
E85 @ $2.70/gal x 1667 gallons = $4501 which is $1039 MORE spent per year on the same annual miles driven

BTW, the extra 513 gallons purchased ADDs at approx 40 cents federal taxes per gallon or $205 more per car, per driver into the federal coffers. 6 cents per gallon local state sales taxes adds another $31 to the state coffers per car, per driver.

400,000 million USA citizens. Plus semi trucks, plus lawn mowers, plus motorcycles, pus snow mobiles, plus ATVs, plus anything else than uses gas/fuel and you can easily and quickly see how ethanol is a CASH COW for the government in terms of MORE fuel sales.

We don't have near as many E85 stations as you guys in the corn belt. In fact there are only 3 public stations in the entire State of Oklahoma and none are remotely close to me. So I won't be buying any anytime soon. Now if they can come up with something that runs on wheat, I'm set!
