The thing thats going to get me are the same people that bitched and complained about how "ugly" the Caliber is, and how hatchbacks don't work; are the same people that will go out and buy this thing since it's a 'Yota! They'll deny it, but we all know the truth; especially if it out sells the Caliber.

I think the Caliber is extremely ugly, but I would never buy the equally ugly Toyota either.

All that is a Corolla wagon basically....

And the difference here is that this wont replace a great selling car like the Caliber did the Neon....

NEWSFLASH- Nearly every vehicle in these 'specialty' niches, are a copy of one another, just built by different automakers. It has roughly the same profile and shape as the Caliber. So what??? It prolly also has much better build quality and such to go along w/ it.

No offense to Caliber owners....

Says you! It's all opinion! The reason why I brought this up is that when the Caliber came out; people bitched about how ugly it was and how stupid it was. But then these same idiots will go out and buy one of these since its a 'Yota and "so much better built"! BULLSHYT!

Not to mention, you could make the case that the Caliber is nothing more then a redesigned Focus....which was nothing more then a redesigned copy of the mid 90's Pontiac LeMans hatchback....etc etc etc

Ok, that thing doesn't look all that great, but I will give it credit for being not as ugly as the Caliber.  There is something about the Caliber I cannot stand...  Also, Toyota isn't cancelling a good car just to bring this out, Dodge killed the Neon and tried to replace it with the Caliber which was a stupid move.

I wouldn't make statements of any confidence regarding build quality of a concept car...  wait for a production model.  Also Toyota's quality seems to be slipping some lately.  Either way it doesn't affect me, Toyota's newer cars have no soul, if you want to drive an appliance have at it...

Okay, let me explain my above post. I was not intending to rag on the Caliber or anything. I was just saying. Toyota's are known for their great fit and finish and build quality. Dodge- not so much. Not saying Dodge's don't have acceptable or even good, in some cases, quality, but it's not an atrribute they're known for. I don't like the Caliber. I don't like this Toyota either. But why are others idiots for buying this Toyota over a Caliber???? Looks are a subjective matter. One car may be beautiful to one, and hideous to another. Build quality however, doesn't lie. And if that's what sways one's opinion, so be it. Why does it really matter???

Altair- I agree w/ you. I just basing that statement on Toyota's reputation for such. I personally HATE Toyota. You hit it right on the head. They are lifeless, soulless appliances that do nothing more than travel from point A to point B efficiently. And that's all most people are concerned w/ nowdays.....

Shows you how little you know about quality when something is "made in america"... and thats where this look-a-like will be produced(if it comes to pass).

The reality of it is this... if you and I are the assemblers, and lets say Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Ford, GM and the others all give us piles of parts to make their cars... do you really think that we are going to put them together any differently just because of their labels? I know I wouldnt. And since the QC guys are also our friends, neighbors and co-workers they get tired of corporate BS just as easily as we do so they let the same crap get through too. This leads us to today and explains why there are so many more problems with the all-mighty-supposedly super reliable toyotas of today(and the others) that are made in america, than there were with the ones of 20 years ago that were actually made in japan(or germany or wherever). Even most of the parts are stamped and made here too or farmed out to the same suppliers that serve the rest of the manus. So nearly everybody expereinces similar defects across the board. Its all about who is better at hiding it and for how long.

^ Really???? Go tell that to all the quality rating  groups and consumer review and report guides. Toyota, and Japaneses cars in general, have better build-quality than American cars. That's not opinion, it's FACT......

apparently you have been hiding under some rock for the last few years and have totally missed all of the 100's of thousands of recalls that toyota, mitsu and the others have had. Toyota alone has had literally had to recall millions of cars and trucks for a variety of things... from defective camshafts, cam position sensors all the way to fuel lines and such.

And damn near 80% of the people on this forum know that consumer reports is about as bogus as a 3 dollar bill when it comes to their opinions... their obviously biased towards toyota, probly getting a big fat paycheck everytime their nose grows longer..

That's just swell. But what do recalls for camshafts, sensors, and fuel lines have to do w/ interior quality????? Every manufacturer has it's recalls. I worked at a dealer that sold both new GM AND Dodge, and they both have recalls and problems out the ass w/ various wehicles. That's nothing new. And it has no bearing on the fact that the Japanese have nicer, better put togehter interiors than their American competition.

As for the consumer reports, you do realize that it's CONSUMERS reporting, right???? Not some company or road test reviewer. It's feedback from the people who have bought the cars. I kinda doubt Toyota is paying off everyone who has a bought a car from them to give good reviews on their products......

whatever dude and you probly think that the neilson ratings really represents what america watches on TV too... and who was talking about the interior anyway... they all look cheap and plasticey.
