I hope sombody can point me to the right direction.  I started up my car (93 R/T manual) and it started little slower than usual. After started to backfire when I pushed the accelerator. It does not stop, on idle it runs reasonably smooth. I can not speed up my RPM will not go higher and all this noise comes mainly from the muffler. It does smell fuel so I think that is not the problem. It doesn't have much power either and I have to change gear at low RPM to get home very slow.. Changed the front three spark plugs.. two were dark and sticky the other was perfect. It did not solve the problem at all. It starts up ok ...Idle  ok maybe a bit slower but no power and lots of backfire .
I would appreciate any idea. I will probably take it to a mech maybe dodge dealer just want to be prepaired . Can be a senzor??

Thanks for any input since I love this car

Brigitte

There is no check engine or any other warning light

Can you check to see if it is firing on all 6 cylinders?

It seems it is when Idle since it is pretty smooth and no noise from the engine or  muffler

Have you checked the rear plugs?  Do you have a timing light?  Could the timing belt have slipped a tooth?  Do you know if the ECU has been rebuilt?

A friend  of mine is going to change the rear plugs maybe tomorrow . Timing belt was changed  about 5000k ago. I just parked the car  and two hours later at the startup the problem started too. there was no other sign or anything. My car is the same green like yours. I just don't know a good mechanic who is working on these cars and my past experience that the dodge dealer around here does not give the best service. Thank You for helping

If you can't find someone you trust, you'd likely be better taking your car to a Mitsu dealer.

Hi everyone!!

This is the updaate on my situation and maybe .......  I do not have sparks from two of the ignition coil which is one unit. I bought all three units from mitsu dealer it came as a set and we changed it. The problem remains the same , no sparks  from the first unit so the engine is running on four cylinders. Any ideas would be welcome.
Thank You

Brigitte

The PTU could be bad.  It's the little unit right under the coil packs.

I'm leaning towards the ECU being bad though.  I had the same problem on my TT.  You can get it rebuilt at ecmtogo.com for about $250.  Sometimes you can find them at the chain autoparts stores for about the same price.

I hade no spark from one coil so I changed all three. After the same problem I pulled the computer and took it to Apopka and they said it looks good. So I bought the PTU changed it today and of course same problem same coil no spark, only four cylinders are running. I would appreciate any ideas. At this point I'm cluless.
Thanks for any help

I'm still betting it is the ECU.  That is the only thing left in the equation other than a bad wire from the ECU to the PTU.
