For those of you with an RER radio I found out from the dealer that the RER radio has a known hardware issue that can cause it to stay awake when you turn off your car.  This will then drain your battery.  The way to catch if your radio is in this mode is if you cannot change your volume.  If you turn off the car and come back to it 5 minutes later and the radio is still not allowing audio to be played then BEWARE your battery may be drained if the car is not driven soon.  I think the only way to get the radio out of this condition is to pull the fuse and force the radio into a hard reset but I have not tested this.

Good luck for those of you with this issue because it's starting to be a real PITA for me.

So, if the radio has no volume then that means the battery is being drained when the car is off?

I just checked...sure enough, my volume does not work right now.  I drove around for a while, shut off the car, then re-started it and it still doesn't work.  Does that mean my engine will be dead by morning?

Great.  I just picked up the car last night and there's already something wrong with it.  Geez...

There's a very good chance that you will have a dead battery tomorrow.
I would pull the fuse for the radio and kill the power to it.  Put the fuse in back in the morning.

I wouldn't chance it.

yea there are some issues with the RER radios. Especially the MYGIG. Pulling out the IOD fuse for 10 seconds and putting it back in may help the radio synchronize internally. Just like a home computer, modules can lock up or go crazy. and what do we do? restart it.

with the radio being a module I would make sure the software for it is up to date.

Thanks for the advice.  I pulled it...fuse #20...and I'll put it back in in the morning.
Just curious...how long would it take for the battery to go dead?

it all depends how much of a draw the radio is pulling. it might only do it once and awhile pulling the battery down only a little, or it might freeze and never shutdown. there is no way to really tell.

Last night, I put my ear next to the radio and I could hear it working, even though the vehicle was off.  The sound was faint, but it was definitely there.  I decided to pull the fuse again just in case.

Tonight, when I put my ear up to the radio, I didn't hear anything at all.  I'm going to leave the fuse in over night and hope the battery is fine in the morning.
