Default 4x4 Differential Question!

Quick questions, does anybody know if it matters if you install a differential from a regular pick-up onto my Ramcharger which is a 4x4? Will there be problems with gear ratios? I wanted to install a differential from a 2004 Ram that had a Hemi onto my 92 Ramcharger 4x4.

Your notgiving us a lot to work with here. Gear ratios? are you lifting the truck adding bigger tires? what size engine.

I'll give you a good dodge site to check out especially for RaM Charger. www.ramchargercentral.com

Default RE: 4x4 Differential Question!

My truck is 92 Ramcharger 4x4, it has a 360 and wanted to know if the gear ratios from front differential has to match the gear ratio from the rear differential? I guess my question should be, what are the gear ratios on a typical Ramcharger that is four wheel drive? Is the front gear ratio different in size from the rear?

Default RE: 4x4 Differential Question!

Look on the cover for a small tag on one of the cover bolts, it will have 2 numbers on it like this......... 3.2 or 3.5 or 3.0, or 2.7 etc............I can't remember if it has the 3rd numer on it also....3.21 or 3.55 etc. That is your gear ratio. The front has to match the rear, I have seen some off just a little like the front may be 3.21 and the rear 3.23. Any year straight axle from a Dodge will work, I would try to get one from a 1980 up since the 75-79 has that funky fulltime set that has no lock out hubs. It does not matter if the axles are from a Ramcharger or Pickup. Hope this helps.........

Just make sure your front and rear diff. gear ratios are matched. If not binding will occur as well as a bad day.
