Just going to see how yall broke in yalls new trucks, ive done my best to keep my foot out of it, but i live in a town where i am surronded by idiots on the road, and i have real bad road rage.No lie, me and my buddy were running erronds and we counted 7 tines in2 hours that ifi wasnt paying attention, we would have been in an accident. I just rolled 2000 miles, and i was told by the guy who i bought it from to change the oil at 3k and then again at 5k, then do it every 5k. Are any of yall running synthetic?

most gearheads today say that an engine is mostly broke in at the factory. but it wount hurt it if youtake it easy at first. the most imporant thing is to have zinc in the oil, and use a good oil filter.
to get zinc, the EPA made most automtive oil makers take zinc out in 1999. so now to get zinc you have to run a desal oil like valoline premeum blue 5w 40,it has a LOT of zinc it seams to work in my dak v6. and go to zddplus.com and use there zinc addative. gm is stopping making e.o.s. so it will be around till stock is sold out.the zddplus puts two times as much zinc ase.o.s. does. DONT use fram oil filters. use purolator pl14670 use only purolator filters that are called pure one i have seen tests that show it to be very good filter. there might be other good filters, just hunt down indpendent tests. i dont trust a mafg. to tell me the truth about there products.i like to change oil and filter at 3000 mile intervales, when you count the cost diff compaired to the cost of an engine it seems pretty cheep. pardon my spelling mopar or no car

I have heard from many people all kinds of break in mile amounts. Unless you are really hauling a heavy load or trailer i would think that stepping on the gas now and then will not hurt the engine. Just keep the strain down to a minimum.

As for break-in, no way I was going to wait all the way to 3000 for the first change: got that out at 1000. No matter what anyone says about the new 'precision', computer-built engines, there will still be more microscopic stuff floating around in a engine that is breaking in its reciprocating surfaces than one with some miles on it. I always wondered how the same person could say 'these new engines don't need a 'Formal' break-in period" and then say " oh it takes several thousand miles for these modern (chrome moly?) rings to seal". I think the key word is 'Formal'. Bottom line is you'll probably see the difference over 100k miles. The guys who beat it from the beginning might have an oil consumption problem while the other guy will probably see 200k with no probs.
