I was in an argument with the owner of a 2004 Ford/SVT F-150 Lightning. He was saying how the HEMI engine is horrible. He laughed and said that the new HEMI's 345HP couldn't compare to the Lightning's 380HP. Here was my argument: The HEMI's 5.7L is NA, the Lightnings 5.4L is SC. The 5.4L without the Supercharger is 260HP. The HEMI with a Supercharger is 517HP. Besides, the point of HEMI's re-introduction in the Ram was for Heavy Duty purposes. What do you guys think?

You are exactly right.  It is easy for a lightning owner to say mine is faster!  You take the blower off and its the same old under powered wimpy 5.4 except the stronger valves and crap in the cylinder heads used for the lightning.  The lightning is not very practicle considering its cab size and bed length and width.  So Ford thought they would fix it with the Harley Davidson SC, big deal!  They added taller gears, and larger wheels, robbing even more horsepower!  Ford had to piece so many parts from donor vehicles just to get the lightning to work.

Bottom line I am happy with my Hemi thank you very much.  The only gripe I have is the wimpy front suspension that Dodge used on the halfton 2wds.  No worries though, there is ways around that.

I see alot of lightnings in the used car lots for sale because they are not practicle. No extended cab and no towing power. Can't carry your family either. I chose the hemi because it has raw power and that is much better than anything supercharged. I don't have to worry about the blower going out. This is what is funny about the super charger on the lightning it has only 35 more hp than the Hemi

you dont even need a supercharger to level the playing field either,
get a programmer, an exhaust, a cold air intake...this should get you
above the lightning alone with still other cheaper bolt-ons to get,
then supercharge it and blow it away!

I also heard that the Supercooler they designed was having problems and they might not use it.

Why do you argue about power like this?

Just enjoy your truck!

we do enjoy our trucks, we just enjoy it much more when we can race
someone and win! if you have to ask about adding power by modding a
vehicle to be faster than the next, then you wouldn't understand

I LOVE my HEMI, but I think HEMI TT put it best, "It's too fast, wait there's no such thing as too fast!" Also, suping up a truck is fun when you "...blow the doors off of some kid in a foreign hatchback." -MT

I have a reg cab SB 5.2L, a buddy with a 4WD 97 Triton 5.4L wanted to see how they'd do against each other......I figured to get beat, but the ol Dodge spanked the Ford.  I have lower gears and less weight because of the 2wd and his was 4wd ext cab but i really was unimpressed with the Ford.  Some guy with a 2wd flareside 98 5.4 wants a piece now.  I'll ask him how the exhaust smells at the end of the straight.

Anybody know how the 5.4 in the 04 Fords do against the Hemi??  It's supposed to have a lot more powerthan before, besides the SRT-10 Ram is in class with the Lightning.  The natural aspirated 5.4 should go against the Hemi.  And get beaten severely I might add.  Oh, lets bring Chevy in this race too, I don't know much about the newer ones.

hey now...i may own a dodge truck, and love it to death, but im a chevy guy at heart. and quite frnakly, they make some killer trucks. the new silverado 3500 hd with the duramax deisel put nearly 600 ft/lbs to the ground. talk about towing power.

granted they dont have any "super trucks" (srt-10, lightning) other than the silverado ss, but out of every truck i have driven, and trust me ive driven quite a few, they new chevy's ride the smoothest and are the most responsive. plus i think the look kick the crap out of the new ford, and are just as good as the ram.

The new Ford Triton 5.4L that is in the 2004 F-150 is 30% redisigned from the old version of the engine. It's only in the new F-150's not the Lightning. It has the new 3V engine desgin and has 300HP/365TQ. It is still 330cid. They said it handles extremely well but the best 0-60 time I have seen is 7.8 seconds. That was in a Lariat Quad Cab 4X4. There might be lighter models like the FX4 Regular Cab that could be faster, but they have not tested those yet.

I have to disagree that the Chevy's look just as good as the rams, they look freakin' plain to me, yeah the Fords are boxy and ugly I think, but the Ram just looks so good.  and I want Truck Trend to do a shootout with 2wd short bed reg cab with the new F150, Hemi Ram, and the Chev.  Can you say Landslide??
