Hi all,
I just bought a '94 Dakota with a 3.9 magnum v6. The truck had been sitting for about 2 years before I bought so it really needs a tune up. From the FAQ...
Tune-Up, What to do?- Spark plugs (some good old copper plugs are good, avoid "multiple-electrode" plugs [such as Bosch+2,+4]), air filter, PCV valve (located on passenger side valve cover), crankcase breather filter (located on driver-side valve cover), spark plug wires, distributor cap, and distributor rotor (located under the cap) are all things to change or at least inspect.
I just need some help deciding what brand/make parts I should get. I know some brands arebetter than others but I don't know enough to make a good decision. Also, where can I get these parts? Thanks inadvance,

All major part stores carry basic tune up items for the 3.9....if they don't have something in stock, blame it on the individual store. Personally, I like Bosch for ignition parts (if available) and Baldwin for filters but most places just carry Fram or their crappy house brand.
I disagree with autozone. Have never had good luck with their products. Napa is a good place. Wouldnt worry about the PCV or the breather filter. Just check em and make sure they arent missing.
Plugs: Autolites or Champions seem to work well in the Magnums
Ya I agree that NAPA has the best quality parts. But you can get good name brand parts from autozone pepboys checkers advance.
Spark plugs Autolite 3923
Wires Accel or Mds Or any 8mm thickness.
Cap and Rotors best to get mopar permance. (Dealer only)
Air filer Fram or K&N
Oil filter Fram HD or K&N
Thermostat 180 deg.
Gas Filter
Gas treatment
Clean Throttle body incuding IAC
Power clean engine and undercarge
Check all wires and emission hoses.
Replace pcv and brather (Cheep and easy)
Lub all grease fittings.
Flush out brake and tranny fuid as well as coolent
Make sure everything is adjusted correctly like cables and linkages.

I'm going to stop at Advance Auto Parts tomorrow. If I can't find any decent parts there I'll just wait until I can get to a NAPA store. I might pick up a thermostat too since it takes this truck FOREVER to warm up (of course it is 5*f right now) I'm also going to dump a little Seafoam in the tank the next time I fill up.
Crazy4x4RT, are the mopar caps and rotors really that much better than other brands? It's just that the dealer wants a lot more $$$ for their parts and I'm a little short on cash. Thanks again.

Exactly! But go for what ever you can find. I have just heard of cheepies building up moisture or just corrting faster and stuff like that. But Napa highest quality or a good name brand from autozone or advance should be good.

I just got back from Advance Auto Parts with Autolite "professional series" wire kit, GP Sorensen cap, GP Sorensen rotor, and Autolite premium plugs. Is there anything I should be concerned with?
Has anyone had any experience with GP Sorensen caps/rotors? I can always return this stuff before I stick it into my truck. Thanks again,

Does Napa even manufacturer their own parts or is there a major brand hidden behind the Napa label? Sears and Radio Shack stuff is often made buy some one else....
