Has anyone gotten more then 20 mpg on a Hemi Durango? I have a 05 stock with 97K on the original plugs and wires. I know laugh now, but I drive a lot. On the highway I get 19 to 21 mpg at 80 to 85mph. I was hoping to bump that up some more. K & N FIPK, exhaust, any suggestions? And yes I am changing the plugs an wires soon, assuming I don't strip the threads.
Also, a little more vehicle history, I ran 95K on original tires and 93K on original front brakes(just pads). So needless to say I have had a pretty go truck so far. The only bad thing I could say is that I had my heads redone twice. It was blowing blue smoke since new until about 45K. I won't go in to that story on this thread, but needless to say a good dealership means a world of difference(and no I didn't have a good dealer). Thanks in advance for all of your input.

I wish I could get that kind of mpg! I'm lucky to get 16.5 on the highway. I drive 30 miles to work one wayand it's about 25 miles on the interstate. I installed a AFE cold air intake with no change. What gives?
Who knows? I talk about nothing but horsepower increase. Common sense would lead you to belive that more HP = more effiency and should = better MPG if you keep your foot out of it. Hence this post. That sucks to hear you haven't seen a change. I am on the fence if it is work my time and money to try. I might just have to go buy a throw away honda for MPG. But, I would rather spend $500 in upgrades then 3K for a beater.

I did once last summer on my '05 Hemi with 30K -22.7mpg- but that was under ideal conditions. It was over a 600mi trip, all Interstate Highway, perfect outside temperature (no A/C required), and I was trying to maximize the mileage with driving techniques-slower accelerations and steady speed. That being said I have averaged about 18 to 19 under normal conditions and just over 17 towing a pop-up camper, with a cargo hauler on the roof and in the Mnt, of WV. I was pretty happy with that. But now that winter is here, I'm just barely averaging 17mpg, but I attribute that to the longer warm up times required before the engine is operating efficiently.
The OEM plugs on your D are rated for 30K tops. You will notice a hell of an improvement just by changing the plugs. I would bet that the gaps on your plugs are crazy huge.
BTW,I assume all you guys are going by the method of dividing miles travelled by gallons used over several fillups. If you are going by the computer, you will find it to be inconsistent and not very accurate.

Driving from Las Vegas to Southern California we would get between 16 and 17mpg averaging 80mph. Pulling a 4500lb20' Jayco trailer we would get around 6mpg going 55 to 60 mph.

Must be nice getting 19-20/mpg. I bought my '07 5.7l Hemi 2WD in Oct 2007 and the best I've seen is 15.4/mpg on a 100% highway trip doing 70-75 on cruise (all flat driving). Generally I get around 9-10/mpg around town and am lucky to see 12/mpg if I do some highway. And yes I'm calculating mpg manually, as the over head console is completely wrong. I was expecting great mileage when I bought this SUV but this is ridiculous.
