Hi there, I was woundering if its possible for a battery to just short out. The reason I'm asking is, I am currently working on a (1995 dodge intrepid,v6,auto trans, over 200,000mi)that has got me scratching my head. The problem: Was driving it home after we bought it. Ran fine other than a couple of flickers now and again noticable by the instrument cluster lights. The trip was about 45 miles. Just as we entered town and turned off the main road, I lost everything. Just like someone had pulled the plug. Here is what I think is weird. I put a battery charger on and I have power. But when I turn the ignition key to turn the engine over, the instrument cluster does nothing but flash and buzz(probably caused from the charger)and the charger is reading a full battery. I haven't tried another battery yet or anthing else. I just wanted to get some ideas on where to start with this problem. Thanks to anybody that can help.

Check your cables for tightness by wiggling them back and forth.

Ok. Checked cables and went so far as to clean them. Still no change.

How big is your charger? Settings under 30 amps or so probably wont start your car by themseves. Have you tried boosting it with another car?

Hey Rampant 150,

Ok, the battery charger I have is a 2/6 amp trickle charger. So your right it would not have enough juice to start it.

I however had another battery to put in it just to see what would happen and bingo she fired right up. So I guess it is possible for a battery to do what it did. Also I put a meter on the alternator and it was charging about 13/14 volts. So everthing looks good again.

Thanks for yours and everbodys help.
