2006 Dodge Dakota SLT
Started to make a clunking noise while in 4wd. Seems to be coming from transfer case. Low miles (12k) and 4wd not used very often. Mechanic was unsure about noise and when he called Dodge they were no help.

Any ideas?

I say make it the dealers problem... it is still under warr. if it has that many miles.

I didnt see any TSB's related to t-cases, so I am not sure if its a "common" problem. I would let them try to fix it/replace it. Just me though.

make sure you didn't accidently rotate to the 4 low position. If you try to go to 4 low without stopping and going to neutral if will make noise as it tries to engage. I think the indicator light will blink also so if you are not getting that its probably something else.
