Last I heard it is still the 18th.. Im pretty happy with the pre-release from this post.. It solved my shutdown issues and added a few features.. nothing monumental but it makes me feel a little better since I don't have to pull the power to the radio then wait 20 minutes just to listen to my music again.. i came really close to installing a switch that would cut the main power to the radio because it was so annoying and happened so frequently..

I really want to hold out for the next release after the 18th release so  can start using my hands free again.. But I'll take what I can get for now..

Also anyone with Verizon Voyager phone issues, Go to your local Verizon store and have them flash your phone to the latest version.. Think the latest is V06 .. Its supposed to change a lot of features and adds increased support for bluetooth.. I haven't had it done yet but I'm going to go an get it done soon.. maybe it will fix the uConnect issues.. In the very least you should have some cool changes to the phone. Unfortunately Verizon needs to do the flash and there is no do it yourself CDs out there.

I contacted Harman Becker and confirmed that the CD will be shipped.. As soon as it arrives I will rip it for you guys and post it. After the following release comes out I will notify you all and post that as well. Unfortunately H.B. doesn't have a downloads page to download the CDs.. But my CD should be arriving within a day or 2 so if you guys can hang on a little longer I'll put it up asap.

I set up a spot on one of my servers for the updates and will leave them there permanently. I will regularly update my first post of this thread to include updates.

Also, Needforsleep was kind enough to provide me with the latest official release of the MyGIG patch for MyGIG radios without Navigation. I have that posted on the server and added the links to my first post. So all you guys and girls out there with non nav MyGIG radios can update your software to the latest version and not worry about where it came from or if its official.

Ok, I just heard back from Harman Becker...
They said the release has been pushed back till the end of the month with no specific release date and when the release is complete they will ship the CD out to me.. So it looks like were going to have to wait a while longer.

A few people have tried using a USB memory stick to install the update but they were not able to get it to work.. (By what I have heard)

Also, While the unofficial patch has been more reliable than the earlier version I had in my MyGIG, and I thought it fixed the missing volume controls/System lockup bug.. But it showed up again yesterday.. So hopefully that will be addressed with the new patch.

Thanks for the update.  It loaded without any issue with my '08 Caravan.  I'm still going to have to bring it into the dealer tomorrow for problems with my sound/nav.  Occasionally the sound will disappear and the "Audio Controls" tab will be disabled. After a couple of starts, it returns.  In addition, my nav won't activate.  Looking at the system information, the "Database" section reads ERROR ID Tag not found. I was hoping that the update would fix this, but unfortunately it didn't.  Any suggestions?

Yes.. You have described a problem that quite a few people including myself are having.. It was the whole reason why I started this quest for a software upgrade. The radio will fix itself with a cold reboot, meaning you need to disconnect power to the radio either by pulling the fuse or unplugging the radio plug in the back of the radio.. Or just turn the car off and wait a long while..

I was going to put a switch in-line with the radio wires to disconnect it because it was happening so frequently with me.. After i installed the update I thought the problem went away.. but it just resurfaced once last week.. The bug does seem to appear less frequently after the update even though I'm sure that is just a coincidence..

I am hoping that the release coming out later in the month will fix that issue however the last that I heard the programmers/techs at Harman Becker are still trying to locate the bug in the radio software code that is causing the problem.

So basically as of now there is no real fix for it.. But the issue has been reported to Harman Becker and they are looking into fixing it.

Thanks for all the info.  Does that bug include the navigation issue? If not, it seems that the basic program needs to be re-installed. Are we suppose to get a system CD when we purchase our vehicle?

Sorry for all the questions!

Don't be sorry for asking questions... That's what this forum is for :) Plus I enjoy helping people which is why I hang out on this forum.. Which i find amusing because I can contribute to the tech support lines at my job but I hate talking to people so I don't.. But I don't mind spending time typing to help people.. I think its because I can help people when i get to it and not forced to immediately.. ok, enough with my life story :)

The Nav shouldn't activate at the same time you are having the volume issues which is part of the same bug.. but if you are getting just the Nav not activating without the other issues then that may either be a different bug or the Navigation's GPS simply could not contact any satellites (Or enough satellites to calculate your position)

The MyGIG is supposed to actually work from the factory and have all the bugs worked out of the system before delivery. Since it was assumed by Dodge/Chrysler that the MyGIG was bug free and placed into the vehicles with that assumption, you shouldn't need a CD to keep your radio working.. so you were not supposed to get a CD for your MyGIG radio with your vehicle.

It would be nice if Dodge/Chrysler would put a MyGIG information page up with firmware/software updates or at least provide some known issues with the radio.. There is one but it does not provide any useful information other than outlining the radio's basic features with the intent to sell the radio and not support it. Even Harman Becker should at least have a page up as well.. But I suppose they want you to go to the dealer for all updates and support. Unfortunately the dealers are not usually given the updates in a timely fashion which sucks because there are serious issues with the radio that need to be addressed asap.

Nothing pisses me off more than getting ready to go to work, turning on my radio and getting nothing out of the radio.. So either I just deal with it or I will actually be late for work just to pull fuses and in the beginning I would pull the entire radio which I did 4 times before i even thought of pulling the fuse.. Mostly I just turn the car off and wait now..

I wanted to add a few things I just found out..

I spoke with Harman Becker about the missing volume issue and they say its caused by a corrupt hard drive which doesn't really make sense to me because if the hard drive was corrupt it would always crash in the same place on startup and wouldn't happen exactly the same way to so many people.. Not to mention it wouldnt happen randomly.. But their recommendation was to bring your car back to the dealer and have them replace the radio with a new one due to the "Hard drive corruption". On the up side you will probably get a new radio with the offical version of the unofficial patch (Which was probably official at one point anyway)  lol

While I was at it I asked if there was any way they could leak any info to me about enabling video while driving.. But No dice.. They said that it was illegal (I assume under the contract with Dodge/Chrysler) and after market radios go by different laws so that's why they would not release a crack or any info to me.. I explained all the ways people are trying to work around the issue and that there was a large desire for the feature for passenger use.. I figured I would maybe save a bunch of people some $ by not having to buy monitors or the freeGIG module. I can respect their decision to obey the laws and not put themselves at risk by releasing software that could potentially get them in trouble so I wont push the issue any further.. I figured it was worth a shot though :)

This is my first post.  I was reading about the "Nav freaking out" issue.  I was wondering if my problem qualifies as the same freaking out and if the update you are speaking of will help.

When I turn the vehicle on, everything seems to work just fine.  When I start driving, the map on the screen doesn't budge.  However, the GPS coordinates change and continue to work.  But as soon as I input a POI and tell it to "go"  it goes, weather or not the vehicle is moving....sort of like when you hit "simulate route."  Then, it thinks it is already at it's destination, and I could be sitting in the same spot and never moved.  The only way to get it to the current location again to to shut the vehicle off and wait.

After telling me that it may be a wheel sensor and a million other things, the dealer did tell me to wait for the software update and on the 18th they told me it hadn't been released.  Do you have any more information on when they will release the the official update?  I am not savvy with the tech stuff, so trying the unofficial download is not an option for me.....I will definately mess it up.

I just recontacted them just now (Monday 1/28/08) and requested status on the CD.. They're going to kill me because I bust their nuts so much lol
But I will let you know as soon as I hear back from them.

Just so you know, Unless you want to know the release date to know when to expect it at the dealer and then go to the dealer to have the update installed, you will still have to burn the CD and insert it into your radio when the latest official software update is posted. It really isn't hard and all you need it patients if you decide to upgrade it yourself. Worst case scenario is the radio stops working, you go to the dealer and get a new radio and that will likely fix your problem anyway.. Plus you get your 1 year of free satellite radio reset again.. :)

The problems you are describing does not sound like the same issue that I am having as my Nav does work.. But I would recommend that anyone having issues with their radio and you want to try resolving them yourself to apply the official patch when it is released as it is supposed to address a lot of issues including a hard drive corruption bug which Harman Becker claims is the root of most of these issues.
Even if you want to try the non official patch, that shouldn't cause any new issues as long as you install it correctly and that is what I am running in my car now however if you can wait a little while I would hold out for the newest upgrade to be released.

Also keep in mind that these are software updates and not firmware updates.. The radio also has firmware in it which is used for core functions, So as long as your problem lies in the software and not in the firmware or hardware then your problem will likely be resolved by a reinstall. The latest firmware version is 15.0 and no CD has been issued to anyone that would like to share the firmware update to my knowledge.

Also, Harman Becker is changing the new software update version number... the new release version will be 9.665 or later.. So the "Unofficial Software Update" that I have been calling it is probably not so unofficial after all and is just an early release of the Version 9.561 software update. So while its not so dangerous to install it, you will likely want the latest version installed in your radio so why do it twice when the release date for the newest version is so close? But you can always reinstall later so whatever your preferences are is up to you.. either way should be safe.

Sure..

Press the Menu button on the right side of the radio.
Press the System Setup on screen button.
Press the System Information on screen button.

Your Software Version is under Application
X.XXX  or in my case 9.561
