I went by the dealership shown below yesterday to ask about the Challenger. The guy’s story was in conflict with everything I’ve seen from Chrysler that I had to ask, where do you get your information? Here a list of what was the most shocking.
I would not buy a car from this guy if he was the last SOB selling the last car on earth.
Earnhardts Gilbert Dodge
1301 N. Arizona Ave
Gilbert, Az 85233

The initial release will only be 3000 cars.
He is getting 11 of those cars.
The cars being built as 2009 not 2008 cars.
The next release will not be until the 2010 build.
He is selling the cars with a $20K premium.

A $37k CAR WITH A $20k MARKUP. HE MUST BE SMOKING DOPE!!! I’LL BUY A DAMN FORD MUSTAND FIRST.
There are only two options, sunroof and MP3 player.
There are only two (2) colors orange and black.

Ok, so he is confused or the public has been lied to. The part that should concern the buying public and Chrysler the most the $20K markup. If Chrysler really wants to sell this car in meaningful numbers, it better reel the dealerships in. That story about they can not control the dealerships is silly. Nissan has formally released a statement from its Headquarters that it will take the necessary action to prevent dealerships from overcharging for their soon to be released GTR. If the import guys can do it, so can Chrysler, if they really want to...

No kidding
99% of the people will not see a Challenger if they Ordered it.
99% of the dealers well mark these up.
Dealers will be happy to take your money to order a challenger even though they know they will not get one...
Dealers are lieing about how many cars they will be getting in.
Cars are allocated to the dealers that sold the most cars.
Now the dealers that have sold NONE but mostly trucks will not see any also.
Dodge will not do a thing about the markups, because all the dealers are not owned by dodge.
My feeling if 6000 people ordered a new challenger, only a few hundred will ever see the car, unless you want to buy one off of the dealers lot where you put your order into...............JT

All this stuff has already been happening with the mustang crowd (GT500,GT500KR, Saleen, Roush) and now the Dodge crowd will have to deal with it. For all those people that are willing to pay $20,000 mark-up on a car thats worth $38,000+- are nuts. I've seen 2007 GT500's that sold for $18,000+ markup on ebay selling or trying to sell for $40,000 and they paid $57,000-$60,000. I guess we will just have to sit back and watch the games unfold cause its going to get interesting for sure.

lol,,,,you are very right
its funny most or alllll the people that ordered a Challenger really think that they will see the car lol..
Wait till they see the challengers on their dealer lots, and their ordered will still be in limbo...
I know I got screwed witth my 2006 Stang GT,But I didnot wait till I got screw more by the same dealer....I canceled my order and found another local dealer that would give me the Car at Invoice from their lot.....
We will see how bad Dodge will screw yeaaaa, all dealers are alike.......JT

Hi,
It's not robbery.  It's called profit.  Supply and Demand.  Small Supply + Large Demand = Outrageous Profit!

There's nothing wrong with this guys.  (especially if you are the guys netting the Mark Up!)

If you would like to do something about this, simply don't buy one for over sticker, that's all.  That's what I did when they were asking +$10,000 over sticker for the Magnum.  Wait, then shop...  I will be getting a Challenger for sticker price, but I will have to wait.  Remember, Time is Money.  Don't want to spend the Time, then spend the Money.  Don't want to spend the Money, then spend the Time...

On the Dodge website it says the base price is $40,095!  That's nuts!  And this is supposed to be a pony car that competes with a Mudstain?  HA!

Much more car, for sure, but on price alone it's already unreachable for 90% of pony market buyers.

Its not a direct competitor for mustang, because it is only available with hemi power and no base V6, and has an intricate and expensive IRS as opposed to mustang's truck axle out back.  It also has more standard equipment.  Chrysler decided to build it as a higher end performance coupe rather than a bargain pony car cuz the profit margin is small enough already.  They noticed mustangs success even amongst high gas prices, built a concept, listenened to consumers and put it into production.

We also have to remember, what out now in terms of pricing is the SRT8, not the R/T version or any other variant (ie. six cylinder) they may do.  So, no it is not direct comparison to Mustang unless you consider Rousch versions or something comparable.

I also agree one will have to wait a bit to get non mark up...I'm waiting anyway for 6 speed

It's been a long time since I've owned a Dodge, and it wasn't a pleasant experience in terms of quality. I had a 87 Shelby Lancer. You'd think Shelby would have thought twice about putting his name on such a poorly built product, but hey, at least the performance was acceptable and it was cheap. Now that Dodge has finally gotten off its fat corporate ass and made the product they should have made ten years ago, I'm seriously thinking about another Dodge yet again. Something I never thought I'd consider again.

I've always loved the Challenger/Cuda cars from the 70's was hooked the minute they unveiled the STR-8. Now that it's been a couple of months, reality is setting in. The dealers have every right to make as much as they can from as many fools willing to pay $20k more than they should for a mere Dodge.

However, though they might win in the short run, they will lose big in the end. What I mean is Dodge is at the edge of a cliff in terms of survivability. Mercedes dumped the company after a billion or so in losses a year ago, which was too bad since MB helped improve Dodge's quality control and technology platform quite a bit. I guess even the Germans can only take so much of idiotic union demands and long term liabilities, which will kill the company. Dodge should be on their hands and knees begging ME to buy the car, not the other way around!

The dealers are asking me to buy a product that may have no place to go for warranty service in less than five years time - it's an enormous leap of faith for me to make that kind of financial commitment to a depreciable asset (yes, it is depreciable no matter how much they hype it). Sorry Dodge, but you are not in the driver seat on this one - at least not with me.

Just wait until the R/T and SE go into full production as 2009 models. The reason they are getting marked up is because stupid people are getting their panties into a bunch and ordering them when production isn't even into full swing yet and driving up the demand, its all a bunch of hype.  Besides the R/Ts come in more colors and just seem all around more appealing to me than the $40k priced SRTs. It's just like when Pontiac brought out the Solstice there were plenty of GM dealers marking those up at least here in Iowa for the same reason dealers are marking up the Challengers.  If you really want one that bad have some patience.

The SE Challenger will be out as a 2009 Model and is a base car with a 250hp 3.5l High Ouput V6 thank you very much.  Dodge will have to be competitive price wise however to challenge the mustang.

This is one reason I decided to keep my Hemi Ram until the 10 model year.  While I still lean towards a new Ram, the Challenger is in play, and by 10, all this will be over.  Just wait.  Let the ones who pay extra work out the kinks.  Then buy one resonable, and most likely, with more HP.

Hi everyone, I am a sales consultant at a Dodge Dealer in INDY. We have taken 5 orders on the "08 SRT-8 Challengers at sticker price. We have been allocated 3 that have progressed and received Vin numbers. I personally have sold 2 of the scheduled Challengers. Our best guess is that we may be able to move the others to "09 orders that we can expect by fall. The three orders that progressed were in order the way we received them. We do not have a date that we can accept "09 orders at this point but I will let you know when we do.
