2003 3.9 magnam. about a week ago a whinning/squealing started in the engine bay. happens a multiple speeds can get it to do it anytime. first changed the air filter to a stock one. didnt change it. thinking it was the serp belt i replaced it because it near the 50000 mileage zone. does anybody have any ideas or questions so maybe i can diagnose it with out having to take it to the dealer thanks swmngimpee

Check your pulleys for dirt or one of the may have seized. Might be your compressor clutch

It could be a few things. First, some belts are ribbed, meaning there are a series of groves cut into the back side of the belt. Some I know Good year for a while was doing that to some of their premium belts for cooling. Was supposed to extend the life of the belt. I think that none of the belt manufactures are doing that anymore, but just a thought. Also, some new belts take time to wear in. They will sometimes squeek for a couple of hundred miles until the belt is worn in and any oils from manufacturing wear off. You did remember to wash the belt before installing it? Not many people wash new belts anyways, so don't worry. It could be a bad bearing. You could use the old timers trick of using a long handled screwdriver placed near the bearing area, making sure that no loose clothing is hanging down. The screwdriver will amplify the sound of the rotating assembly makes inside whatever you are listening to. It will help to track down where the noise is coming from.
