Default Engine oil dipstick breaking

I have had to replace the dip stick 4 times now on my 1999, 6cyl dodge dakota. 2 sticks purchased from chrysler dealer. The last 3-4 inches is broken off and stays in the oil pan. Could it be hit by the crankshaft? Any help appreciated.

worse, it could be jammed into something, like the crankshaft, or rods, oil pump, the list goes on
I would drop the oil pan and get them out, anything in your oil can destroy your engine, you wouldn't belive the damage that it could do
