Default what's going on w/ my truck?

about a week ago i started to hear a loud repetitive knocking sound. it would not do it when i accelerated at first, only when i would idle when stopped and in reverse. but then it would not always happen. i checked for loose belts, the fan, etc. nothing. it sounded more like it was coming from beneath all that. i was told to drain the oil and add Slick 50 and change the oil. i did this. the noises went away about 90%. recently the knocking and loud clicking sounds have come back. this time the sounds do occur when i accelerate and continue in reverse and some times when i'm stopped.

what could these problems be? i assumed at first not a rod knocking because nothing occurred with the acceleration, but now i have no clue. i was told there could be an issue with the timing, but i honestly don't understand the situation or what it could be since it's not always consistent. i am wondering how serious this is, what i can do, what it could be, and if i can even drive the truck at all while this is going on. is that just messing it up more?

thank you

It sounds like it might be an internal thing. I had a knoking on my engine only when the engine is slowing down. It turned out to be a bearing on the rods. I would say take it in. If you know for sure its your engine and not just something else. You dont want it to get worse. if it does get worse you have to replace rods crankshafts maybe the block who knows.

Is it a knock or a tick? If it's a knock, your bearings could be done. But if it's just a tick it's probably the lifters.

it sounds like its a knock and a ticking or clicking sound. in the beginning its sounded more like a knocking sound, but it seems that it depends on which gear i have it in usually and now sounds more like a clicking or ticking sound. before it wasn't as pronounced, but now when i put it in reverse it sounds maybe more like a quick clicking or ticking sound. it happens when i accelerate now too.

It's not likely though, with hydraulic lifters. Or shaft mounted rockers, I know pre-EFI mills had them, not so sure about ours...
