How many of you have changed it and how hard was it to change it? Also what brand to get. And when you changed it did you have to empty the coolant out of the system before removing it?

I recommend going with Stant thermostats.  I haven't changed it yet as I just bought mine, but, will in spring.

Thanks. I've heard from a few people that once you change it your vehicle will heat up quicker and blow out hotter air. My truck takes about 10min to warm up and it wastes a hell of a lot of gas doing so. Is this true? I freeze my ass off waiting for it to warm up sometimes, any tips on what to do to make it warm up quicker and blow hotter air

Sometimes a thermostat will stick open, meaning that the coolabt will start to circulate right away, not building heat in the coolant in the block.  By replacing the thermostat, which usually are cheap, you make sure to warm the coolant before it has a change to circulate thru the cooling system.  Another thing is if the heater core is plugged that will also cause low heat.  Should back flush it when you change your coolant.

So if I do replace it what temp should I go with. 180 or 195? Could I just replace it for the winter and then when winter is over put in a stock temp one again? All im really lookin for is just for my truck to heat up quicker so I don't have to wait as long as normal for it to get warm inside the vehicle. Winter in canada sucks

I replaced mine on my 92 when I replaced the water pump, it would be a pain to do if I didn't have to do the water pump because similar things have to come out.  It runs ALOT cooler now and heats up nicely.  I went with the lowest temp they had at the auto store, but now when it idles it still blows hot air but when I rev it up just a little or when I drive it blows out nice and hot.

Correct me if im wrong. But if I want it to heat up quicker and blow hotter air, don't I want a higher temp thermostat. Like a 195 or 190 around there?

You are correct.  The higher the temperature thermostat, the longer it takes for the thermostat to open.  The longer it takes to open the thermostat, the warmer the engine gets in a shorter period of time.  A 195 thermostat will warm the engine and the heating system faster then a 180 or obviously a 160 degree thermostat.  A higher thermostat will also allow the engine to run more efficiently for emissions, which is why most factory thermostats are 190-195 degrees.

In short, you are right on the ball.

Yea you are correct, they didn't have a 190 so I went with a 180 i think somewhere around there I didn't get why they didn't have something like that in stock which im really surprised cuz its a common part and a common vehicle.

hope it's not to late here... what year & motor do you have in your truck?  the 3.9/5.2/5.9 motors like the 180 deg t-stat and autolite 3923's (non-platnum).  if the one you buy doesnt have the air bleed hole in it, drill a small hole in the diaphram before putting it in.  this will help with getting all of the air out when filling the cooling system back up.

Maybe I missed something, but, if is he wants the engine to warm up faster, and he already has a 180 degree thermostat, why would he want to stick with the colder 180 degree thermostat in the winter time?

Well, if it is the stock thermostat, it will be a 190-195 degree one.  If it is the original one, the spring is probably very very weak.  This would cause it to open very early.  Flush the cooling system, backflush the heater core, change the thermostat with a new 190-195 degree one, top off the fluids and you will have the best heat you will be able to get.
