here is my problem... In my 85 laser 2.2 Turbo that used to standard I just put in a auto. Now I got it running, it runs good but when I give it gas its like there is nothing there. Just a Huge hesitation, doesn't really want to move that much, or at least no where fast. Do u guys have any ideas of where to start, or what might be the cause of this?

Check the timing, I can remember I changed my timing using the coil wire instead of the Number 1 Cylinder, and it was like it had no balls when I gave it gas, but I changed it , and it runs great.

Did you change the PCM (computer) as well when you changed it from a manual to an automatic? You have to have the PCM to match the drivetrain and that could easily be your problem since they are completely different.;)

NO I did not change the PCM(computer). Where abouts is it located on the car???

But I guess I will try the timing first, but if that doesn't work, then I will have to look more into the computer. Thanks!

It is located between the battery and the inner fender well, there is one big plug with around 60 wires going into it, at least that's where it is on the '87 and up Daytonas. They have different PCM's for each different year and a different one for each engine & transmission combination.

Isn't the ECM located at the passenger side kick panel?
cuz there is a computer there, or is that for something else?????

The one he is referring to is the smec or sbec, its located on the left or driver's side of the fender well under the hood, next to the battery. Its the only thing over there that has a 60 pin wire connector plugged into it, you can't miss it.

ok a few more questions...
Can I take that computer from a la baren? that has a 2.2L turbo that I got the automatic transmission from?? would that one work??
Also does anyone have a picture of that computer/hook up?
And what does smec or sbec mean or stand for???
thanks!!!

If your Daytona is an 85, don't bother with the one beside the battery because the Power Modules are all the same clean up to 87/88. You'll need to replace the Logic Module (Pass. kick panel) with one from an "1985 ONLY" turbo/automatic car. It dosen't matter what model car as long as its an 85 with turbo and auto trans.

Hope this helps....

yeah that does help.. and kinda makes more sense too.
But i has to be a 85 tho. I understand it has to be a 2.2L turbo auto car, but the year matters?

Yes the year matters with an 85. The reason is because the 84's turbo cars have a mechanical waste gate that is not controlled by the Logic Module. The 86 and up LM's use a different distributor and HEP (pick-up plate) sensor and is not compatible with the 85 electronics/sub-harness. You can switch your car over to the newer distributor/sub-harness and use the 86 and up LM, but that would just be extra time and money spent.

Also keep in mind that you can purchase a new MP Logic Module (85 w/auto) at you dealer for about $115-$130 if you want a little extra kick in the butt......

does the LM not have anything to do with the windows, electronic dash, locks, things like that.
Only how the car runs??

well I went to the wreckers and picked up 2 logic modules. However, 1 is from a 86 (la baren) with the 2.2L turbo auto, and the other one is from a 85 (aries) 2.2L (Not 100% if it the turbo or not. There was no engine, but it did have the air intake "arm" thing, not the circular one that you would find sitting on top of the carb. so it that the turbo??) and with the automatic trans.
Do you think these will be of any help!!
thanks!
