Problems w/oil pressure and strating somrtimes

Low oil pressure at idle after warming up. sometimes does not start but if you wait 15 min. it will

Any thoughts?

Theres a screen in the oil pan that I've heard of a couple gen 1's that ran low oil pressure as a result of a clogged screen

The truck also burns oil could this be some of the cause?

lol! willow if your truck is burning oil and you never put more in it then Yes it could cause you to have low pressure. Just kidding mine has always had high pressure. I don't know why. It dosent knock tick ping nothing. Codydakota is right. there is ascreen in the oil pan you need to check out first. has the pan ever been removed? If not there could be build upin the botom of the pan and when your oil starts to thin out throughout the engine the pump is going tosuck up what it can to oil the engine. So when the engine is off the gunk will settle and thus the cycle starts over again. autozone and O'Reilly Auto...part # 200s for 2wd and 4wd 3.9Hope this helps.

I have a funny story about the screen too,
One of my buddies was at one of the chevy dealers around here that everyone hates (prices out of sight). He found a '95 Dakota 4x4 with 100+k miles on it, no price on the windshield or anything so he asked about it, they said, "it has a bad motor, it will start but has no oil pressure" they told him he could buy it for $500 if he had a trailer or a truck to tow it, he's a mechanic with his own shop so obviously he has a tow truck. He bought it that day on the spot, took it to his shop, dropped the oil pan, and sure as Sh-- the screen was all plugged up. He replaced the pump and screen, put it all together and now it runs like a dream, he kept it for about a year and sold it to a kid for $4500, he's been going to that stealership ever since and is making a killing fixing the "blown motors", sold a caddie for 10k bought for 1K just recently.

I will check it out this weekend hopefully and get back with you. I really dont think the guy that had it before me had a clue. I bought it for $300.00 and thats the only problem with the truck. knock on wood LOL.........................

This is a probably a silly question, but I'm new, so be nice... Is there anything that can be done about burning oil? I just got mine and I think it is burning oil...

Is it burning oil? Or leaking oil onto the exhaust manifolds? With older vehicles, the valve cover gaskets tend to leak. Very cheap and easy fix. Don't need to be a mechanic to change em. If it's actually burning (blue smoke comming from exhaust), then your valve seals are gone. Seals need to be changed and valves re-seated. Definately a job for someone mechanically inclined, and some special tools are required as well..... well... more than a socket set and some screwdrivers anyway.
