What changes qualify for a new generation?

Sorry if I offend anyone but that new body is bad... hopefully that doesn't count as a whole new generation of Dakota... if so the Dakota line is toast

my guess is that it would be seeing that it looks different then the third gens not sure on that tho.

well,
In my opinion, it would stay third gen, in this forum, (most 'kota forums consider the third gens fourth)
It is just a body change, almost all the mechanic portions remain the same

It'll stay a 3rd gen....
The 1st generation Dakota received a similar treatment. It had some physical appearance upgrades, but not a big enough change to warrant a new generation. This current Dakota simply received a model refresh, not a new model.
Chrysler refreshed most of its Dodge lineup for 08...

Yeah, being as it is mainly sheet metal. I drove a new V8 and honestly, it feels like my truck with better shocks...
its a visual update with newer version of the same motor...

Would agree with devils reject on this one. Its also like the full size getting a new face lift. I think its just a mod not a completly new truck.

i saw one at the dealer the other day and must say i actually kinda like them i thought it was a ram at first since it was getting dark but thought it was to small then i stopped in and looked at it. they ahd a black one with black wheels that looked like crap though i think its a special package or something

Yeah we have something similar to those out here in AZ. They do it to the black and dark grey ones and call them "Night Runners" even put a stupid sticker on with painted wheels and want to charge 5-8k more for them!

yeah, the night runners are a special edition. the headlights and wheels are different, as well as some minor exterior stylings... Nice trucks, especially the Ram night runners, they look real good.

I wasnt really talking about the night runner looking bad or even Night_Runner's truck... mostly complaining at the sticker prices for it here in AZ.
By the same measure I could slap on a few stickers on my blue Kota and call it a "Blue Thunder" or "The Lightining Bringer" Hahahahaaa... I'm just messin around.
