Crazy4x4RT ,Maybe I need to move to the desert,I dont like cold weather anyways and my sinus problem hasnt gone away in 40 years. I'm getting ready to stick a 5.9 in an 87 Dakota shortbed with a carb and a 5 speed. I'll see how it works out in that one and get back to you if I need directions to the desert. As they said in Raising Arizona,I could get me a suburban Tempe starter home. I'm thinking maybe some of my heating problem in the later days was from my trans slipping causing excessive heat. But that trucks gone now so maybe this other one will be different

early 80's to now. toyota, chev, nissan (datsun) suzuki were all 6 bolt pattern. Ford, chrysler 5 bolt pattern. i owned a suziki with a 6 bolt pattern, almost ripped the rims off. my 89 dak with 5 bolt has not let me down. that's probalby why!

I keep forgetting I'm a lot older than a lot of folks on the board(maybe I'm just in denial)In the good ol days...He..He...He.. like the 60's and 70's the standard out of Detroit was a half ton truck had 5 lugs,a 3/4 ton had 6 lugs and a 1 ton 8 lugs. Of course in the 80's all that way of thinking went out the door. The manufacturers started going cheap and started taking their lower strength rears and changing the bolt patterns around and stick them on bigger springs and call them 3/4 tons(my 97 2500 van 3/4 ton has 5 lugs and a 5 inch pattern just like the 1/2 ton trucks) All of the weight rating designations became more of an advertising point rather than an actual difference...just like in everything else. All of the food now is advertised as lo-cal,low fat,no cholesterol,etc.etc. but its all the same stuff that was made in the 60's just with updated descriptions to make it more appealing to the consumer. Now trucks are not as heavy as they were then but as long as they stick 2500-or 3500 on the side everyone will think they are much heavier and buy them anyway.I remember in the early 90's my Dad bought a 3/4 ton chevy van to haul his boat to the lake and upon getting it home and reading the owners manual it said that they didnt recommend that you tow anything with the 700R4 trans that was in it....It said right on the window sticker HD towing package and it came with a reciever hitch but they didnt want you to tow anything with it.
