Hi ,
I am new to this forum. I have a 97 dodge avenger and I have been thinking of buying this car since it came out in march.  I love the outside, not crazy about the plastic insides.  The car I was going to get had 2 small scratches on the back fender. they ended up just touching it up.  cant really see it any more, but i dont know if this would peel.  Also i noticed on the night i drove it it was dark and lightly raining.  I noticed the head lamps were kind of fogged.  i dont know if it was on the inside, because on my car 97 avenger,  i had condensation in the head lamp and had to replace it.  The sales man said, its because of the weather, the heat from the lamp and the dampness.  Is that normal?  i didnt see water in there just fogg. i know it would be covered by warrenty but i dont know if i want to buy a car that needs a fix already... please help  thank you.

There are 3 reasons for foggy headlights,
1) Oxidation/weather causes them to lose their gloss and they become foggy with contamination (Not probable in a 08 car),
2) Someone sanded the entire light or used caustic chemicals to clean them which damaged the clarity of the lens.. or
3) The headlight has been damaged allowing water to enter the light housing and heat causes the water to evaporate covering the inside of the light with small water droplets causing a fog effect.. After a drive any foggy looking water on the outside of the light should have been gone from the light heat and wind resistance but water trapped inside the lens has nowhere to go except evaporate onto the inside of the lens...

The most likely reason is light housing damage which means the car was probably in an accident, repaired, and the small crack in the light housing overlooked. Personally I would look for a different 08 Avenger because something sounds fishy with that one that the dealer isn't telling you.. I mean yeah it was caused by the weather.. but he seemed to miss the part about how the weather was able to get into the car's light. :)

The clearcoat fix shouldn't peel as long as the clearcoat edges are not exposed and if it does peel because the edges are exposed it will probably take about 7 years.

I'm coming from a 97 Avenger too (My transmission blew a gear through the transmission casing) so after checking out a bunch of different cars I wound up with another Avenger. There were a few little issues here and there with my new Avenger but the car is awesome for the $ and after you buy one you will love it.

I agree. Buy it.  Not that one necissarily, but do it. With the warranty how can you go wrong?  I did not drive anything other than the R/T so I'm not sure how those are, but the R/T is well worth the price of admission.
+1 to the headlight.  It SHOULD be sealed and nothing is getting in there.  If it is...it needs fixed.  Eventually road debri will wear the light housing down making it look clouded as well but we're talking......100k or better (depending on traffic) before that sould happen.
